Loved this one from the word go. It had that great funky Meters groove.

I've always loved the Meters' drummer (Modeliste)

The guitar work on Hey Negrita is actually great (and I don't get the Ron Wood hate) but each time I hear Jagger's voice on this song I want to smash every tooth in his head, or kick him in the eye. And the lyrics are awful.

OMG eye popping smiley

I think Roman Candle misfired on that one...or just flamed out.

BTW, I happen to LOVE hey Negrita - fantastic, "deep groovin'" cut thumbs up

its quite funky like slave and very catchy but overall it sounds a bit weak, like a lot of black and blue.

I say, hey negrita, hey now, move your body, move your mouth
Shake lady, way down south, shake baby, in your home town
Come si chiama, what's your game, I'm just a poor man, what's your name
Shake your body, do it up now, shake your body, move it up now

Hey negrita, hey now, hey conchita, shake it up now
Ah yeah, do it up now, mueva las carreras, do it up now

Flash of gold in your ears, child, flash of gold in your eyes
Saw the gleam in your mouth, saw the steel in your thighs

Bate las caderas, do it up now
Just a momentita, not so fast
I need money, my sweet ass
I say: Listen I'm a poor man, my pay is low, here's one last dollar and then we go
One last dollar, she say, I got my pride
I'm gonna cut you balls, boy, I'm gonna tan your hide

Ooh, hey negrita, hey now, what’s the matter boy
Hey negrita, do it right now, come on, boys

Shake it up, shake it up, shake it up now
Hey negrita, hey now, hey negrita, hey now, hey negrita, hey now
Hey negrita, hey now, hey negrita, hey now, hey negrita, hey now
Do it up right now…

Jagger says "mueve las caderas" meaning "move the hips". He says it with a heavy and deep english accent (especially "caderas").

I don't understand why the official lyrics state "Bate las caderas" when Mick at 1:42 doesn't sing those words at all!!!

An absolute gem of a song and one of their most funkiest if not the most. Fantastic guitar work, great bridge, and a wonderful loping beat that sounds like it's gonna fall apart!

To me that's Ronnie's first great contribution to a Stones cut. And of course the Wyman/Watts rhythm section is incredible.

It's one of those songs that is sneaky in regard to their catalogue. Insanely clever (although not really, it just happens to be), funky, catchy and it heaves. And something only some Stones nerds would know.

It's not for the HOT ROCKS crowd.

The promo video is the best one from the Black&Blue set... Mick plays the two roles perfectly, both sleazy and dirty to the right point, all in all somehow classy - pure 70s Jagger.

Not everything is always meant to be understood... maybe Mick just made up some words that sounded Spanish? It's all part of the RnR spirit of the time.

Here's an Italian superstar who made a whole song in the 70s that just sounded English: youtube.com - good luck translating it!

Maybe you're right, but i think he's saying something that no one has ever wanted to go into or ask about...so much so that the official lyrics include a 'Bate las caderas' that has nothing to do with what he sings at 1:42!

It's a frigging rock and roll lyric, not a Shelley poem.

Funny how time changes perspective. I thought Hot Stuff kind of weak when first heard it on the radio. Then I heard it blasting in a disco on huge speakers. Billy's piano was show stopping. Never thought much about it, or dug it out to play it. Then I got El Mocambo and it sounds amazing.

I hope if a live version of Hey Negrita ever makes it out on an official release it retains that funky, sleazy feel.

Credited to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, Ron Wood apparently wrote the song's main riff, a piece of music he took with him to Munich's Musicland Studios where he and other guitarists were auditioning for the second guitarist slot left open after the departure of Mick Taylor.[2] For his contribution, Wood would receive an "inspiration by" credit on the album.
