Well, Keith claims he was was doing Brian's guitar parts by the time of December's Children and Aftermath. I had always assumed it was Brian's slide on Doncha Bother Me, but maybe not.

Brian plays guitar all over Decembers Children except for, Look what you done, he plays harp and of course
As tears go by...
It was my 1st lp and still one of my fav albums...

After December Children is when Brian got bored of the guitars and moved to playing everything under the sun...
Aftermath is really a great album thanks to Brian...

I think Keith heavily exaggerates - he might be true to his feelings and Brian probably didn't play the guitar as much Keith would have liked him to do - but actually it was not until BETWEEN THE BUTTONS that Keith seemingly needed to take care of all the guitar parts by himself (expect "Please Go Home" that probably had Brian Jones's typical Bo Diddley rhythm guitar in it, even though that is debated.)

I hereby retract my speculation on possibly Keith playing bass on this. I think it was from a rather muddled memory of mine. Sorry to cause any confusion. It's Bill all the way.

I'm not sure about Brian playing the acoustic guitar on MLH. But there should be no doubt that Brian plays the slide on Doncha Bother Me.

maybe, but keith could be overdubbing 2 guitars on those tracks. Some here think that's what happened; I'm not sure.

When I first heard it in 1966 it was really a big deception after all these greats singles...

What is Jagger singing about?..

I always thought this song was about prostitution... painting a sleazy image of passing clients ("I was just passing the time") looking for comfort with both men and women (have you seen your mother/brother) in shadowy back alleys, a place for illicit sex and unwanted pregnancies.

The stereo version is available but I don't think it's been released officially.It can be found on bootlegs such as Time Trip Vol 5 and many others.

Are we sure that the Stones ever performed live this song?
The "Got Live If You Want It" version didn't sound at all like the others 1966 tracks. The intro and the outro sound quite like the studio version. Could this version could be a studio out-take?

so what's the consensus on who plays bass on this and whether brian is on the track at all? from reading snippets of this it sounds like people agree it is bill, but the info in the original talk track post still says keith...

What I remember readimg about it is that there were two mixes of the song, and someone made a mistake and the bad one was released. And the better mix was destroyed.

Like almost everything they did in the 60s, it´s simply brilliant. Heard it thousands of times in the last 30 years and will never get tired of it. It´s a classic Stones-song, it will never lose its magic.
One of their early masterpieces.

This was the first Stones 45 RPM I bought - that was in 1968. It, and the flip side "Who's Driving Your Plane", remain two of my very favourite Stone songs.

Took me years to appreciate it but now rate this as one of their very best. Recorded at a time when they weren't afraid to take chances and unconcerned about commercial considerations, shame Jagger forgot that over the years. The drag shot was pretty far out for 66. The distortion at the end capped it off as they called it the ultimate freak out.

Strange how dark and nasty it is. It sounds like something that should have come out after everyone saw through the flower power fad.

Unique, original, essential.

I must have heard it alot around the time of it's release when I was very very young,
as it's part of the time capsule of memories from that period of my life as a 3 year old.
I know that my aunt who used to babysit us was a big Stones fan, so that could be the source.
