Interesting on the Gimmie variation.

I wonder if the movie Gimme Shelter might have had something to do with the revisionist spelling?

Re: Jumpin' Jack Flash and Gimmie Shelter

Gimmie is the british abbreviation of Give me, or at least it was back in the day, I think?

Re: Jumpin' Jack Flash and Gimmie Shelter

Also, gim·mie.

Origin:
1925–30; informal pronunciation of give me

Another well-known song with different style of writing has been Paint it black / Paint it, black. Bit strange that one.
I also saw diff. spelling of Honky tonk Woman/ Women.

Only 93 million miles off ...thats 8 and 1/2 minutes difference from the songwriters original intent...what's 8.5 minutes to 2000 years?

OK, so, right thread now:

What made Mick drop the 'g' from Jumping yet "retain it" for Tumbling?

Don't know, they added 'G' back to Rollin' Stones...maybe when they added the G, the realized they had to delete a letter from somewhere, so that's why Richards lost the 'S' for awhile.

To compensate for past indiscretion, they also dropped the 'G' in Jumping Jack Flash for good measure, but again, added it back when they felt they had properly addressed the issue.

I'm not sure why Tumbling Dice hadn't suffered the same fate, but perhaps when they added the 'S' back to Richard, they felt that the issue had finally been dealt with and didn't require further action. Or something.

Keith didn't add it until 1978 as I recall.
