The Greatest Recording The Stones NEver Made.

I'm going to have to go with a cover of a Beatles song.

I think the could have done Get Back, Come Together, or Back in the USSR better than the Fab Four.

...hmmmm....a Stones' cover of 'Red House" might have sounded pretty good, circa the 1968-71 period.....i'm just saying...for all the Mick taylor lovers out there--heard him play this years ago and it was incredible...with ALL the Stones behind him it would be otherworldly i'm sure....

They could have done a couple of early Who covers, the way The Who covered a couple of Stones tunes (Under My Thumb and The Last Time) as a gesture of support in '67 when members of the Stones were being threatened with imprisonment stemming from their notorious drug busts.

The Stones could have returned the gesture by covering a couple of Who tunes, though the Stones were not doing too many covers after '65, but they could have included them as B-sides. They could have done versions of more straightforward Who tunes like The Good's Gone, which has a bluesy slant

The greatest recording the Stones never made was what Between the Buttons should have sounded like. The sound on that record destroyed what was possibly their greatest ever record. It's fine as is and great quality but if the sound was better, it would have been up there with the Taylor golden period. If only they had done this at RCA.

I always thought they could do a stinging version of "Fortunate Son". I know the original is hard to touch, but it already sounds so Stonesy, it wouldn't be much of a stretch for them to punch out a good version live. Yes, even in their golden years.

Jealous Again would be more like The Faces?

This one, maybe?

or this one, with my friend Doni Gray on drums and BU-vocals:

Love it, but I'd prolly pick another track off the album.

Just thinking about it, I really love that album, I'm going to put it on right now!

Good lord not a duff track on Wandering Spirit. I don't think I've listened to the whole thing since about '95. Excellent.

In fact, "Use Me" may just be Lenny Kravitz's best record ever.

Coincidentally, after Wandering Spirit I had a new Kinks Greatest hits CD playing...Lola is a good choice.

Yeah...I thought Mick could nail those vocals. And after a recent re-listen, I realized it had a lot of blues in it that I missed before.
Wow - saw the Kinks back in 1984...Where does the time go?

Just the Robert Johnson back catalogue (about 25 tracks), this would be a fine thing ...

Wouldn't this be more appropriate for Marlon or Jade to record?
