My info (many, many books) say it's Brian on slide guitar. Keith plays on all other guitars. It's also called "Two Trains Running'. Recorded at Redlands, 1968.

Interesting!, so this is one of Brian's last recordings?

His final appearance was on R&R Circus (December, 1968) and he has some recordings on LIB.

If that is Brian that is an excellent example of early weaving!
Maybe the only time these two did it!

They are both taking leads all over each other...

I love it too.
True Stones music that.

As for never releasing it, I would guess it was too long, too unoriginal, and too ABkCO at the time. It was probably never meant for release- just a great way to unwind and get in the mood to record their originals.

I have been listening to this take for 28 years and it never gets old.

There is an acetate of it, so i think they maybe want to release it at the time.

Most big studios had acetate presses so you could take a recording home to listen too. That's one reason there's a fair amount of outtakes available.

It is Brian on slide, but it was recorded at Olympic.

Muddy's version is great

but the RSVP Stones is a killer. Yes it should be released and played in clubs ! If the band was not that huge machine they could do a club tour.

I don't need books to know it's Brian... His playing isn't too different here from Little Red Rooster (indeed he plays some similar licks). Brilliant stuff.

Little Walter plays guitar on Muddy's version.

For clarity's sake... there's only 2 guitars on the track, one played by Brian(the slide), the other by Keith and it was recorded at Olympic, not Redlands.

First heared it on Trident Demo's and/or Trident Mixes which I bought of my newspaper round money back in the mid seventies. Still own the both of them. If I'm correct the LPs contain material from the first (or even audition -) sessions of Mick Taylor with the Stones.

I have a few different versions of Two Trains/Still a Fool. I like the slower version best.

"A few"? How many exactly???

I've only heard this version (though Jagger also does a snippet in 'Performance' as far as I can recall).

He does Come into My Kitchen/Blues on Performance. There are a few different versions floating around, but they are only different with the time! No decernable differences in the song performance itself.

You mean different edits of the same performance?

Yes, usually with a longer fade out...

OK, though I don't quite understand "Promoman"'s comment then:

Yeah, they sound the same to me. And there is a live version from Amsterdam that is pretty damn good!

Mock does a bit of Hooker's - I'm Bad Like Jessie James - as well.
