Wow it's funny he would pick JJF to close with. You'd think he'd choose something he had involvement in making. A lot of decent choices out there.

He used to close the Barbarians-shows with JJF as well.

Harm,

We didn't really have time to talk after the 2nd show because I had a cab turning up any minute, that's why I just handed you back the camera and said goodbye. Sorry about that. But as you have no doubt noticed by now, I took absolutely loads of pictures. The only problem with being front of stage there was that the stage was actually disproportionally high as compared to the floor level, I don't think I've attended a theatre or arena in many years where you're kind of "looking up" to quite THAT degree. Anyway, that aside ... I did periodically check what I took on playback, they looked pretty OK to me, I immediately deleted some that were out of focus, because the AF function couldn't handle either the fact that the stage lighting was changing too abruptly, and/or because Ronnie bloody Wood was jumping around too much !!! Look forward to seein' them in any case. Are you going to upload them onto this thread ?

How did you get on with big old SLR from where you were ? You were saying that security stopped you in the 1st show, but were more relaxed in the 2nd.

My best shots are the ones when I forgot to turn off the flash.

Yes, I had to resort to using flash as well, the AF just doesn't cope too well with that fast changing stage lighting. Fortunately even the flash on a little compact is powerful enough to illuminate the subject from 2-3 metres away, but anything more than that and its beneficial effects are lost.

Uploaded this to youtube.
It's the one with Ronnie alone with Stomp.
AND, sorry, sorry, sorry, ran out of battery.
But you will at least get the feeling.

What makes me laugh is people using flash in a large stadium. Hundereds of flashes going off throughout the concert, yet none of the pics will come out that well as flash is pointless from so far off. Perhaps they can't turn it off.

I find using a high-sensitity mode (if the camera has one) is good at a dark concert.

My best one was seeing people using flash at the very last row at the "Stadt de France" (spell) in Paris. 80,000 stadium. Clever. 200 meters away?

Sure, if your camera has manual functionality, then great .... select 800 or 1000 ISO, shutter speed of say 1/200, and with luck if the stage is reasonably illuminated, the camera should produce an aperture value of F4, F5.6, F8, which is a good compromise for "depth of field". But there's not too many truly compact digitals that have that level of manual functionality, although Harm's little brand new Nikon did, I have to say. My own little Panasonic Lumix has got a f***ing great grain of dust on the sensor, which basically means that unless Panasonic can take it to bits and clean it for a modest price, it's knackered - not worth doing. So I might look at that little Nikon for my next compact digital. Then again, a full size digital SLR with a 70-200 zoom has got a certain appeal too ........................ !!! It just ain't that user friendly for smuggling into - and using in - rock n' roll shows !!

I can't wait to get my Sigma 18-250. But not the stuff you try to get into to a R'n R show.

Really, really great shows!
I must say I was surprised to see how good Ronnie can play. Increadible feeling for most of the songs. I just attended the second show, but heard the 5 final songs of the first one from the outside. I would say that the second show was better, except for jumping jack flash. For me,jumping jack flash sounded like not too much rehearsed. Most of the musicians were great, perfect sound. The addition of percusion was also great.
A great day to remember

Ahhh, so you were there....... bloody show off!!! And there was me slummin it with Bryan Ferry in Selfridges.....

Cheers,
SonicD[/quote]

I don't know what you have bought there [(hey, I had my eyes on a pair of shoes for some silly 39,50 but spend (more) on Stones stuff elsewhere)] but "your" Ferry certainly has taken Kate Moss away from Ronnie that night!
It might be ok for Ronnie to choose a mid-week day for a presentation but a Roxy Music reunion with Kate on the cover certainly doesn't need a Tuesday to focus the press on?!
Hey, Bryan, you Jealous Guy (honi soit qui mal y pense - to be jealous of Mick J plus the Faces) to distract that lady for about a mile's distance to some Soho venue?! You are harming the wrong Stone.

What is the story about the "Bielefeld"-sign on the stage??

It's a running gag in Germany that there is no such town called "Bielefeld" at all!
Actually, I don't know where that rubbish origins from. Because it is incedibly silly as you outside there in New Zealand might have a piece of Bielefeld in your kitchen too!
To make it clear, I've never been to Bielefeld in my life too: But if my nurse-later-to-become-my-mom had chosen the other wounded soldier in that miltary hospital who had an eye on her in those late days of that war I would sponsor a Ronnie Wood Tour of Germany on my pocket money.
But I am sure (or advise you), whereever you are from, look for Dr Oetker products, it has the highest quality ingrediences to bake a cake from (no, that wasn't the heir who had an eye on my mom!).

Great shots - thanks, guys! And thanks everyone for the reviews and clips. I had no doubt that night would be The Right Time for all those there. Roll on more shows from rocking Ronnie Wood. His bandmates are falling ever more heavily under the shade of his live music outings. I hope they're taking good note.
