Ronnie 19.10.10 - early show

Great 1st show tonight.

Set List -

Thing About You
100%
Why You Wanna Go And Do A Thing Like That
Lucky Man
I Gotta See
Spoonful
Sweetness My Weakness
Forever
Tell Me Something
Fancy Pants
Debris
Night Time Is The Right Time
Plinth (with a bit of Prodigal Son)
Stay With Me
JJF

Kelly Jones guested on Why You Wanna . . . and Debris

Ronnie kind of took a back seat on the last few tracks. He should have taken lead vocal on JJF a la New Barbarians but seemed happy to leave it to Bernard and the one of the girl singers (Beverley Knight?). The 'I feel Like Playing' material was really excellent, better than what followed. I Gotta See was the best song (IMO) by a long way.

Hope the late show was as good.

Ronnie was great. He was center stage from start to finish. Sipped his Coca Cola can from time to time and made some guitar picks fly as he got excited. He was so happy during the first show that he said he would cancel the second show but that was of course just an emotional joke.

First show started 7:38pm and lasted for 90 minutes. Then a break. Second show started 10:35pm. In addition to the band Ronnie brought on eleven Stomp drummers who made three of his songs a lot more "noisy" than they would normally be. After all he was in Stomp territory...

This was like a Stones fans reunion. Ronnie on the guitar. Bernard Fowler on backing vocals. Fans and friends coming in from all over into London for these shows only. And the shows went so well. Ronnie was on fire and was giving us everything we expected and even more.

Thank you Ronnie!

No, the vocals were shared by Beverley Knight and Bernard Fowler.

The show was introduced by 'Mr Big' of Sex and The City fame who announced Ronnie would be playing 8 tracks off 'I Feel Like Playing' and off we went with 'Thing About You'. Having played the album several times and really enjoyed the variety of tracks it contains it was such a thrill to see and hear it being performed Live. I got the feeling Ronnie felt the same as he launched into each song with gusto, thoroughly enjoying 'his guitar' throughout. There were so many highlights it is difficult to know what to pick out. Bernard was on top form, Jesse Wood was playing a very funky bass, Adam Greene on guitar was living up to his introduction as 'one of the most exciting guitarists this side of New York' and Mica Parris and Beverly Knight added some very soulful and powerful lyrics - especially on Night Time. As for the audience.....we were in party mood, with so many Stones fans congregating and exchanging stories, Anita and Marlon certainly looked like they were digging the music too.

....and that was just the first show! An hour and a half later and here we go again. Ronnie was even more animated for show number two. The same setlist, but even higher excitement levels.

As we ambled out of the Ambassadors Theatre at just gone midnight, we realised we had enjoyed a very special evening. Ronnie certainly 'Felt Like Playing'.

It is the 'Stomp' set and there were various signs (Carnaby Street, etc) around the stage to give an urban scene.

I was lucky enough to attend the late show last night at the Ambassador Theatre last night in London.

I've seen Ronnie live solo twice before and loads of times with the Stones. I love Keef and Mick T too, but I must say Ronnie was really on fire. Superb. I doubt either of them could match him (I saw Mick T solo a couple of years ago in Amsterdam).

Looking great, joking, and firing out licks like it was the mid-70s again.

The guys from Stomp provided some very cool percussion on a couple of songs, in particular for Ronnie's free-wheeling slide spot, which was awesome.

Other high spots included what must be a new one - a great Sweetness My Weakness reggae track that I am going to find and download - as well as much of the new album and a standout Stay With Me, encoring with JJF.

With Ronnie playing like this, it makes you realise how shockingly under-utilised and limited he must feel playing second fiddle in the Stones.

Rockin' Ronnie Wood indeed!

Photo of set list on mixing desk (early). Took the photo went to bar, came back and it was gone! Someone had obviously nicked it - so to whoever took it, why you wanna go and do a thing like that for?

The expression and abandon in Ronnie's face in the SWM clip - I don't think I have ever seen; definitely not in years and years but he looks just great; and in control...of something. I love watching him @ 2:23 - about 2:40 in "Stay with me". In control and maybe a bit pissed off. His playing is excellent.
Jesse W is playing my Bass.

I saw only the 2nd show, fantastic. I asked the sound guys how the two shows compared, and they said that the 2nd gig was by far the better one. Is there somebody here who saw both gigs? what do you think?
