Clearly a lot of thought went into that "song" that reads like a 9 yer old boy wrote it. "Gonna beat my drum"? Lame.

LOL! Maybe he was preoccupied, the note in the upper corner says "Talk to James".
James was a little bit of a handful around that time. Or at least that's what I heard.
I saw it close up in Chicago in '97 when James took off one day. And they found him in the movie theater
Dad went looking for him and I just happened to be coming into the hotel almost running into him in the lobby.
His face was the look of a pissed off and worried Father. I luckily had the chance to give him a lot of room to pass. Easing his bodyguards mind also and saving me a beating. :-D

It is very well produced, imo.

While listening to a mix playlist of several Stones recordings 'Gunface' came up.

Musically great - funky with slashing guitars.

But I struggle with the lyrics..
It just seems like an angry misogynistic rant. Or is Jagger making some kind
of point here? Perhaps trying to convey the feelings of a badass abusive man.
Is there any insight into this or none?

99% of Stones Songs > Gunface > Juiced > Back To Zero > Let's Work

Bridges to Babylon is one of the worst Stonesalbums ever, same league as Dirty Works.

It makes me think of Mick's relationship with L'Wren Scott.. in the end he must have driven her mad

I half invented her
And now she acts so chic
I taught her everything
But now she's obsolete

GunFace is a great track. It is a Blues based, Rock / Funk fusion as far as guitar goes actually with pretty outwardly Hip-Hop oriented drums and bass. The slide guitar is good but it is slightly distorted as an effect is all. It was purposeful .... not a bad production value.

A unique, slick but raw song and it is strong .. pretty darn strong and it stands the test of time. Of the better tracks of BTB... GunFace is one of those songs that you don't forget (and that says something in itself). A latter day Stones Goodie.

Agree with all that, but don't dismiss the powerful lyrics and Mick's powerful vocals as well. It definitely stands the test of time as far as I'm concerned. A powerful track in all aspects!

I stand by my earlier comments ... I still love this track! It kicks some serious arse!

Just up the track from Out Of Time ....we got Gunface

I taught her everything
I taught her how to speak
I taught her all she knows
I taught her how to eat

I half invented her
And now she acts so chic
I taught her everything
But now she's obsolete ...................

Hard to believe this is a Stones tune - even in the context of "latter era" it's a real stinker.

As least Dirty Work had the Wyman tour de force 'Harlem Shuffle'. And 'One Hit to the Body' ain't bad. BTB is like an experiment that didn't quite go right. It's terribly dated. I guess it was an attempt to be modern, but it follows, rather than leads like they did previously.
