Either way, Burdon sings it great! A shame they have been removed from Youtube.

Love it!!! As Paint It, Black is my FAVORITE song by the Stones, and Eric does it true justice IMHO...The Animals were an outstanding group when it comes to getting down and gritty.

I did it with both.

That clip is from the Monterey Pop Festival in '67 (which I've always considered a more impressive line-up than Woodstock).

Love Burdon, the Animals, etc., but that violin... is awfully painful. I could not hear the rest of the band. Still, I love a daring re-arrangement.

Yes, superb (I've just been looking for it on YouTube). An Animals fan once told me that the song was given to Eric Burdon by Jagger &/or Richards, but he never recorded it officially (only at the BBC).

They do an incredible version of "To Love Somebody", check that out sometimes if you haven't heard it.

And what about Ring Of Fire?! "Love Is" (1968) is a fantastic album! Featuring Andy Sumners (later The Police) and Zoot Money...

I searched this thread out, it's interesting, the Animals and Eric Burdon made a few references to the Rolling Stones.

The early Animals live album, before doing I believe 'Almost grown' by Chuck Berry, Burdon says something like "I'll take my hat off because I shake me head like the Rolling Stones".

That song "Cafe a go go", he mentions the Rolling Stones and of course the line in Monterrey where Burdon says "His Majesty Prince Jones smiled as he moved (grooved) among the crowd".

Early raw Animals were pretty excellent.

burdon is the best white boy blooze singer ever. in the history of mankind, i'm talking. and mankind and the blooze go back quite a ways, too...

On their cover of PIB (or, sometimes, PI,B ), does Eric hum the song all the way through from after the 2nd time of the occurrence of ("I have to turn my head until my darkness goes" ) through to when he starts this accented shouting of ("I want to see it painted/Painted black/Black as night/Black as coal" etc.)?

But then there's also the violin of John Weider.

And there is also the possibility that he does all this loud screaming like someone's dying or about to die. Does Eric do that on this Stones cover?

Story Jim Morrison was once wasted and crashed at Eric Burdon's home in California, Laurel Canyon maybe.

Now, if it sounds like this is just fluff, I found a link that doesn't discuss this story, I don't feel the need to hunt it down but here is a link that says Burdon and Morrison did indeed know each other.
