I love the intro from the Hyde Park version, it's so slick. The Beggar's Banquet version is so raw, it's beautiful. I love the Ya-Ya's version, and the Knebworth version as well, too bad only a minute or so is available from the soundboard.

the Altamont version is very powerful - terrific song.

Probably good that it hasn't been done to death live.

What arrangement was the Hyde Park version? Fast, like the studio, slow, like Ya Yas, or mid-temp like Leeds.

The 02 arrangement makes it resemble Zeppelin's In the Evening.

Re: Stray Cat Blues

it was somewhere in the middle of the studio version and Ya ya´s/Leeds.

A good description - and I would almost say nearer studio. Listen here:

The O2 versions are not bad but pale in comparison to YA-Ya's

Opening riff taken from Heroin???

Well, that's the most obvious borrowing if there is anything true in Mick's claim that the song is based on the influence of The Velvet Underground. I would also say that over-all the raw, almost chaotic atmosphere the song creates might come from the 'Banana' album.

I just played the song Thurs, this time of year, fall in NE USA makes me feel Banquet big time, love the sound of the acoustics...The original on BB is by far best version ever, I lived that song back in 68 when my buddy and I, then 21 had a set of 15 yr young twins over our place in Ct with SCB blasting..we later swapped them, they became junkies "all my friends are junkies"

Great song but I don't think it sounds anything like EOMS. To me its always had kind of a Mod sound to it. the mood and feel of it reminds me of aftermath but it is more hard rocking.

Yesterday I listened to my fully assembled "Ya'Ya's" with the songs (including bonus songs) arranged in order for a full '69 performance. How many times have I listened to that album? It has never let me down. It is one of the most enduring recordings I have ever heard. The vibe of that recording is tremendous. Truly one of the greatest recordings of the rock era ever.

can anyone translate this from "Northeastern USA" in standard English? There aren't any acoustic guitars on this cut, if that's what you're talking about.

I've done the same, but I've replaced some songs from YaYa's with their (better) Gimme Shelter version, for instance JJF. Absolutely a great listen every time again.

Stray Cat Blues live in 1973? That's new for me. Which show?

The guitars sound more dangerous than swimming in a swarm of sharks.

"I mean, even WE'VE been influenced by the Velvet Underground... I'll tell you exactly what we pinched from (Lou Reed) too. You know Stray Cat Blues? The whole sound and the way it's paced, we pinched from the very first Velvet Underground album. You know, the sound on Heroin. Honest to God, we did!"

Yep, forgotten. Shame on me. I have it even on (red or yellow) vinyl! Reminds me of the 1970 versions.

Speaking of 'nicaraguan earthquake victims concert" It was a big surprise for me back then that they played It's All Over Now, pity for the bad sound quality

Great sound quality, Nico, for a simple audience recording:

Great version! The recording runs a bit slow though (SCB comes accross as being in C# as opposed to D), which probably adds to the "majestic" air.

I'll give it a shot:

Connecticut is not Assachusetts, full of Massholes. Screwed me two 15 year old girls without ID.
