Of course. Who can forget those dreamy years. Stonemania. Blues at the peak. Let's just imagine they rerecord those masterpieces in Aftermath. They did not calculate.
I was born much later, but the early Beatles (everything up to and including Help!) were my favorite part of their output.
As for the Stones, 12x5 and Aftermath (UK) are my favorite albums of theirs. Also, their singles output rocked. Long, Long While is probably their 20th best song of that era, and it's amazing.
Of course, who doesn't like Aftermath, Out Of Our Heads, Between the Buttons, Satisfaction etc. - it was during those years that the base for Stones was created. Without it, no Stones.
We all are young, middle-aged; old, and then we die...if we're lucky. But we don't get any choice as to when we are born. And as great as it would be to be young now, I am glad to have been born at a time when I could experience the 60s. It was clearly the high point of the century.
(1963) It Happened at the World's Fair (1963) Fun in Acapulco (1964) Kissin' Cousins (1964) Viva Las Vegas (1964) Roustabout (1964) Girl Happy (1965) Tickle Me (1965) Harum Scarum (1966) Frankie and Johnny (1966) Paradise, Hawaiian Style (1966) Spinout (1967) Easy Come, Easy Go (1967) Double Trouble (1967) Clambake
Are you kidding? Pat O' Day, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Sonics, (The Witch, Psycho) Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Muhammad Ali, (Cassius Clay) Joe Willie Namath, Jack Nicklaus, Ron Musson and the '63-'65 Miss Bardahl, Bill Muncey and Miss Thriftway, Billy Schumacher and the '67 Miss Bardahl, The Man With No Name, Barney Fife, Don Rickles, Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell, etc., etc., etc., etc..
Amazing that many of them (Pat O' Day, The Stones, McCartney, The Sonics, Eastwood, Barney Fife, Rickles, etc.) are still rolling 43 years later!
Sure I do! Much like the Beatles they moved from 3 chords rock songs (63) to something musically extremely sophisticated (67)... except they did it WAY better than the "Fab" Four did...
I'm from 1955 and I remember the sensation of the Beatles (I got Yesterday as a birthday present) and shortly after them those rebellious Rolling Stones with even longer hair than the Beatles very well. Wonderful and unprecedented. They made your imagination as a young boy work at full speed. It definitely were the Beatles and Stones years, symbols of a new period in history. One could feel it in the air!
