Sorry to disagree. I always thought this went on for 6 minutes too long.

Love it! But I'm pretty sure Brian plays the other guitar track as well.

Which one?

Keith obviously played the tremolo guitar and the lead guitar has many Keith type licks.

Brian played harmonica on the track and a damn fine job he did too.

Why is it obvious that Keith played the tremolo guitar? That's the one I thought Brian was playing.

Because it starts the track, Keith played that part live and Brian is on harmonica which he probably played at same time as Keith was playing the main guitar.

In other words the tremolo guitar, bass, drums and harmonica is part of one live take.

Yeah, likely. Still, Brian could have added the harmonica track later.

Keith only only playing minimal lead on a 1966 track carrying Jagger Richards credit seems very doubtful.

"Brian didn't play (guitar) on this 'cause it was too @#$%&' complicated."

I always loved "Goin' Home " from the album Aftermath -1966.
This track takes you on a trainride and there's now way of stopping...

"Goin' Home" was the first "jam" recorded expressly for an album. In an interview with the magazine Rolling Stone, guitarist Richards said, "It was the first long rock and roll cut. It broke that two-minute barrier. We tried to make singles as long as we could do then because we just liked to let things roll on. No one sat down to make an 11-minute track. I mean 'Goin' Home', the song was written just the first 2 and a half minutes. We just happened to keep the tape rolling, me on guitar, Brian [Jones] on harp, Bill [Wyman] (on bass) and Charlie [Watts] (on drums) and Mick. If there's a piano, it's Stu (Ian Stewart)."[2] Jack Nitzsche, a regular Stones contributor throughout the 1960s, here performs percussion.

I'm not sure I'd heard this before. I'm only now, after 20 years as a stones-man, giving the early albums a chance.

It sounds, in parts, pretty Doorsy to me, especially in the middle with Mick's low voice.

Also the OW and SHOOP that sounds so Fingerprint File.

An educuational listen for me, although I reckon that 'Think' will get a lot more spins here!

PS I'm now realizing I am awakening an 'old' thread (2010), I'm sorry if this is a breach of etiquette. Should I better create a brand new thread to discuss this track?

I thought this track was so good so I could never turn the disc and continue to listen. It would ruin the experience of Goin Home ...

hear you talk,

This is one of my favorite non-hit-singles Stones songs. In fact, when I first registered on this iorr site a few weeks ago I chose part of the lyrics of this song as My signature...and my user name tauk from the part where he sings I wanna hear you talk, wanna hear you talk, (repeats that line several times).

If I was choosing a set list this would be on it, along with the latest track talk "Talkin' Bout You". I'm so glad i found iorr.org-I was existing in my Stones world alone for so long!

Good job of posting the long lyrics to this record breaking long song. The only other rock singer I've ever hear use ROCK SCATTING is Jim Morrison of The Doors. I also love jazz scatting from Van Morrison, and of course jazz singers like Ella F, sure, thats great, but scatting in ROCK, only this one from Jagger & the Jim M are the only ones I've found so far.

I guess i like the way Mick ad libs here & goes with the flow of the unexpectedly long jam session this turned into. It's like he's "Singing it like he means it & its just kinda humorous & fun, and sexy too. And he flexes his vocal range down into a lower register than he usually uses in parts of this.
