Stones Should Play More Chuck Berry Songs

I just bought a CD of Chuck Berry's Greatest Hits and was shocked at the musicianship. Keith appears to have copied all or most of his guitar licks, and I mean that in a positive way. Keith has incorporated Berry's style into his unique style, and plays Chuck Berry music as well as or better than Chuck himself. Both are great musicians.

Two of the ten songs on the CD (Route 66 and Little Queenie) have already been covered by the Stones. Six of them would make great Stones songs for the next CD or future CD's:

Johnny B. Goode

No Particular Place to Go

Maybelline

Roll Over Beethoven

School Day

Sweet Little Sixteen

Listen to Chuck sing Johnny B. Goode, then imagine the Stones playing it. What do you think?

I think they should leave Johnny B. Goode alone, but School Days off your list would be nice-

Quite honestly, I'd rather hear more Chuck Berry covers than some of their most recent choices for covers.

Yeah right!
From the start to the great 69 and 72 renditions to 78 and to 97's Little Queenies.Their Chuck versions have always been highlights.

Please go back to Berry and no more of that terrible Love train stuff!

They could play nothing but Chuck Berry songs for two hours straight and I'd walk away a happy man. Rock n Roll, Keith, Rock n Roll.

Yup beely nails it, Let it Rock from 78 is awesome! I love the stops in the beginning, so tight...
I would love to hear more Berry from them, rather than a lot of the covers they do now...but I doubt it will happen, they don't want any royalties going to Chuck now.

I still believe it would be great if they could include one of Berry's that made them where they are instead of a blues one. Little Queenie or Carol...

Everybody, steady on. There isn't any bad blood between the Stones and Chuck.

Well there is a bit between Chuck and Keith...Chuck was might pissed that Keith testified for Johnny Johnson, and Keith didn't feel too good about what he thought as Chuck taking advantage of Johnny by not giving co-writing credits (funny! Reminds me of another guy that didn't get credits)...and since that trial they haven't performed much Chuck, I know they did Little Queenie at the Double Door gig in Chicago, but nothing since then if I am not mistaken.

Carol & Little Queenie in 1969 and a little later Roll Over Beethoven rocked, their best stuff live! wild wild wild.
Sweet Little Sixteen and Let It Rock and even Respectable in 1978 - even better, and it was close to impossible.

Pass on this suggestion. They should play the material they wrote and recorded.

Actually, they should just PLAY SOME SONGS live, and at this point, I'd be happy to simply see them onstage.

little queenie was the single best live song performance they've done in the last quarter-century, so, yeah...more of that would be nice, in theory, but with keith's state of being, perhaps not....also, seems that CB songs are taboo now, presumably due to the keith-johnnie fallout....

I recently acquired the LP 'The Rolling Stones Play Chuck Berry'. It's a compilation of well known studio tracks from various albums and a couple of live tracks. I got it at a record show (only $15) but the dealer didn't know anything about it. It's on German Decca, SLK 196378-P. Great pic of Keith on the cover. Anybody know anything about this record? Thx.

No ouch here. If they played nothing but Berry covers the next concert I go to, I'd leave a happy man. I'd much rather hear Little Queenie than Brown Sugar or Start Me up, or Let It Rock than IORR or...(keep going)

It's fantasy land I know, but I would love them to do more Chuck Berry covers. To me, that's the pure essence of the Stones, the perfect combination. This does not detract from their own wonderful songwriting, but rather, complements it. They always seem to enjoy doing Chuck's songs - it's a bit of an onstage romp. To my ears, they carry this off with much more finesse than, say, blues music. At their heart, they're a rock 'n' roll band, rather than a blues band.

As has been commented, it would be good to hear them play anything now, but in fantasy land, I would have them do maybe three Chuck Berry songs from the B-stage. Carol, Little Queenie...OK, they're a well established part of the repertoire, but why not something different? Promised Land has been mentioned. Oh yes. Love to hear them have a go at that. What about Tulane? Too Much Monkey Business? It's a rich seam to mine. Just not My Ding-a-Ling (sorry, CBII).
