I didn't know but there's a category of "Special Friends of the Library" - which is people who've made large contributions. Turns out they got an automatic invite. I know one of these people who didn't even see the invite until it was all over. So there's the reason for at least one of the empty seats and some explanation for the small number of tickets on sale.

Regarding Michael Cohl.

The show (or whatever you want to call it) was about to get started and I noticed a few scattered seats here in there in the closest section. I saw one that look promising so I headed over there. I was just about to sit in it and saw that it was reserved for Cohl. I was going to take it anyway, but he was already heading down the row.

That would have been awesome to have scammed his seat.

For me, last night was one of those times when you finally get meet someone in person, and discover that person is even prettier in person than you'd imagined. And Cindy is pretty cute too.

Hee heee - well thank you kindly! Scott was very flattered you thought he was so pretty, and he didn't even bother to shave!

i was told people were coming in there and just ripping off the reserved signs on the seats and nobody bothered them .i would not do it in the front but in the middle of the seats why not.

one of the people who were ripping off the chair signs came out the back door at the end of the talk...she was avoiding the library-employee scalper who she was ripping off (i guess there was agreement to pay later - lol).

I had joined Friends of the Library *just* for the purpose of going to this Keef event...

Here's the excuse why I never got an e-mail heads up:

Quote

I am so sorry that you didn't receive the email. It appears there was an
error in our system that prevented the email from reaching you when it was
originally sent our donors this past Tuesday because a proper Friends
Membership was never attributed to your record. I've updated our records
and sent you the correct acknowledgement/member card.

Again, I'm terribly sorry about this mistake and I do want to say thank you
for your recent gift. The Library is an essential institution that relies
on donations from private individuals like you in order to fulfill our
mission to inspire lifelong learning, advance knowledge, and strengthen
communities. Support from Friends helps the Library put books on shelves,
provide early literacy programs for children and job search services for
adults, and so much more.

As a Friend at the $40 Level, you and a guest will be invited to our
upcoming Holiday Open House on December 5, 2010. This one-of-a kind
holiday tradition – is our annual “thank you” to our generous donors. The
Library will be full of Dixieland jazz, refreshments, and holiday cheer.
We'd like to offer you the opportunity to bring two additional guests to
this event that will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. that Sunday
afternoon.

I really do want to apologize for any inconvenience and disappointment this
has caused. We are extremely grateful for your support of the Library.

Ya know, I'm too old for this shit... I cancelled my "Friend" membership. Gosh, I really shoed them, didn't I?
