Lyrically, I placed it with BUTTONS when I first bought METAMORPHOSIS in the mid-eighties. However, most sources seem to list it as being from AFTERMATH. Either way, it comes from within a 9-10 month creative spell that was unlike any other in their career.

During that phase they actually had about more fresh pop melodies in their minds than taken all the other periods together...

Doesn't It say in Stone Alone that it's a Between The Buttons outtake recorded at Olympic Studios?

Looking Tired is another that has different dates by different sources.

The Pathe Marconi '77 - '78 sesssions also yielded an unprecedented amount of new material.

Someone in that thread says there's mellotron on If You Let Me.

There isn't any Mellotron on the the track, I assume they mean the descending electric piano lines.

Vox organ. No Mellotron.

Bill's Stone Alone has it as a Between The Buttons outtake.

'If you let me' is definitely a 'Between The Buttons' outtake in my opinion. I think the 66 period was the Stones most productive in many ways, certainly from the 'Aftermath' sessions onwards (commencing in late 65). Maybe not all the songs were top quality, yet it is amazing how many truly memorable songs the Stones did record during this period. There are an abundance of great pop songs, which to a degree have been neglected in light of the Stones more celebrated 'rock' style.

And the Voodoo Lounge sessions weren't too bad either. There are loads of new songs on the boots.
