ABB Infamy's rehab???
Posted by: Honestman ()

I know that most of you hate this song, mainly for the lyrics .
So try to forgot the lyrics and listen to the music.
Open your ears once again
IMO this track is very good, Keith tried to add a new touch in his WELL KNOWN style
I always like it, from the first listen to now, it's even better now.
A KIND of mixture between the X-pensive WINOS sound and the ROLLING STONES.
I didn't expected this sound , play it loud, the voice is nicely rough and the music
rock hot smiley
The last great track sung by Keith on a ROLLING STONES Album ???????????eye rolling smiley

I have always loved it. And always gets a several repeats when it's on.

what's wrong with the lyrics?

It's you that wrote the song, baby
But me who's got to sing, yeah

not Shakespeare maybe but what the hell, it's a bunch of good keithisms...
there are far worse ones, even on the same album

I'd take Keith's lines over Mick's bleeding heart any day, come on

oh ABB... memories... first time I put it on this year I guess!
that good warm sound... thanks for this thread.
great Keith tune - but that acoustic guitar is no good.

well I broke my leg and spend all days in bed, so music and books are my saviours...
next on my list: Amy's Rehab... I'm inspired by this thread :-P

One of the songs I'm skipping on ABB.

The source of the pun in the title is probably lost on most non-UK fans, who wouldnt be familiar with this famous line from 'Carry On Cleo' (featuring Kenneth Williams as Julius Caesar). Without a doubt, this is where Keith got it from :

I have always liked this track. It's not a great SONG, mind you, but I love the feel, the groove, the atmosphere. A cool, subtle way to end an album. Slight enough to signal "this is not the end", but with enough swagger it could be the last ever track and leave you wanting more.

No need to : it's the best track from ABB. I've said it for years. If you prefer cheap MJ songs (90% of the album) like SOL well there's nothing I can do for you except recommending you this band... [www.blackeyedpeas.com]

That's the essence of a rock track : the INTERPLAY between a guitarist and a drummer. A bit like "The Crunge" but with 1000 times more class, intelligence, subtlety...
And that CW drumming! If Infamy were to be the final Stones song ever, I think it would sum up pretty well 40 years of relationship between these two!

Not a bad little track, but nothing approaching Keith's finest.

If, God forbid, something happens and ABB is the last Stones album, what a disappointing way to go out.

Love it. Love the lyrics. Love the groove. LOVE that intro sound before the drums kick in. Is it a keyboard?

ABB was my first Stones album, and I must have replayed Infamy three or four times after the first listen. Still one of my favourites.

Musically, it's a cousin of "Moon is Up" from VOODOO LOUNGE. Keith's love of the "You Got It In For Me" joke can also be heard in "Will But You Won't" on MAIN OFFENDER. As an aside, word plays have always fascinated him from "Anita Love/I Need a Love" in "Happy" to "I lean won't you lean on me" in "Eileen." Lyrically, I've often wondered if the song wasn't a very honest response to Mick's dominance of the band post-BRIDGES TO BABYLON.

I've always loved this one, too, but since I heard it live before the album came out, I was a bit disappointed with the studio version not having the great vibe that the song generates live, but it's still a great track.

You're welcome.

Have to say though that 'great' is one of the most over-used words in the entertainment industry, and this is proof of it.

I've always liked it--agreed on the Winos vibe, especially Main Offender--but it was probably a mistake to try it in a stadium setting.

wonder if keith wishes he had had more patience to keep playing stuff like Fingerprint File...

I thought it worked well live, it seemed to have a bit more of an edge.
The studio version is good, but feels a little bit demo-ish to me.

For my taste, the studio version is weak musically and I usually skip over it; however, I thought it was quite good at the one ABB concert I attended. It had more punch and was much more guitar intensive. Both Keith and Ronnie were playing rather than posing.
