Wow! Oldham was a terrific producer? He did hardly anything! And most of their early albums sound like crap, and the few tracks that sound good were "produced" by in house Decca engineers. Oldham was a great image man, but didn't know his way around a recording studio at all.
) did you make your early morning appointment?

Tele, I'm currently on the border of Russian Hill/North Beach and I love it--the vast views of Alcatraz, the crazy hills, the wild parrots squawking outside the window, the vibe of North Beach when it's just regulars/locals--aimed to be in the Mission but couldn't find a furnished short-term apt that accepts pets. Hope to move out here permanently - X fingers that it works out cuz it feels like a kindred city.(sorry treaclefingers to be biding the time til you return by talking to Tele!)

That may be taking it too far. Oldham worshiped Phil Spector, and some of Spector's techniques rubbed off on him. Admittedly he didn't even know what mixing was on his first Stones session, but he was a quick learner.

"The whole film is more a study about the athmosphere and spirit of the early sixties in Ireland at the time when the stones played there than about the group itself. Apart from a few interviewes (one with each member)it goes on and on about the opinion of the fans. And during the whole film you don't hear one single song from the Stones! You really have to be a "hardcore-fan" to enjoy this." Amazon.com

YEs, so right Tele. That is true. But I don't think Oldham really had much to do with the producing...I think he participated, but he was very limited in his understanding of the production and engineering, and mechanics of using a studio... And yes you are right, especially on the first few albums. By Now the sound was much better, and that one was done at the Chess studios... So yes, my statement was a bit too far:-) Hey! When you leaving for Laos? What is the plan, itinerary??

Flying into Bangkok Oct. 19, taking the train to Vientiane the next night. Then 2 nights Vientiane and probably about five in LP? What do you recommend seeing?
