what do you guys think about Mick Avory of the Kinks? He's sometimes called a charlie-esque drummer. I'm not sure I agree...

Even harder than to name top 5 Stones whatever!

Of course soo many great drummers!

But I don't go for the Buddy Rich, Tony Williams and Billy Cobham virtuosos or all those great black groovers.

Some who's warm playin come to my mind:

Levon Helm
Max Weinberg
Jim Keltner
Richie Hayward
Kenny Jones/ Mickey Waller . . . and 1.000.000 million others . .

I can't believe people have listed Ringo! He was a piss poor drummer, by any standards.

John Bonham
Levon Helm
Mick Fleetwood
Mitch Mitchell
Buddy Rich

Not by the standards of the greatest group in music history, nor by my standards. Once sat through a wankfest drum solo by Mick Fleetwood. I was about ready to tear my hair out it was so f*cking boring. At least Ringo had the good sense not to do indulgent solos.

Dennis Chambers
Terry Bozzio
Vinnie Colaiuta
Gary Husband.
Billy Cobham

I would replace Dennis Chambers with Keith Moon (the best rock drummer ever), and Gary Husband with Jon Hiseman (or John Marshall), but apart from that ... spot on! Colaiuta is my fave of all. Saw him last year with John MacLaughlin and Chick Corea, but his work with Zappa was stellar.

Anyone that dismisses Ringo Starr as a drummer or his importance has no idea what they're talking about.

In no order, mine are...

Ringo
Keith Moon
Al Jackson
Kenny Jones
Hal Blaine (look at his CV)

Bubbling under (but they all rotate)

John Bonham
Dino Dinelli
Bobby Elliott (The Hollies)
Bruce Gary (The Knack)
Clem Burke
