Damn--this is great! I'm watching right now and signed on to iorr to see whether anyone had already posted about it.

Wow - Merle Haggard. I never knew much beyond "Mama Tried." Not only is he a great musician/singer, songwriter, and fascinating man with a twisted history, but a hella sexy man - whatever age he is, doesn't matter - ssssmmmmokin!!

Late in the documentary his anti-hippie/conservative politics emerges, which I guess shouldn't surprise me but it did because he's also a rebel. Ah well...who cares?

Keith adds a few pithy spot-on soundbytes about him and the Bakersfield sound.

And Merle makes a comment that he's as tough as Keith.

I agree - documentary worth watching!

I watched the first hour, mainly b/c Keith was being interviewed. But as I watched, the "Keth factor" kicked out, and I was intrigued by Merle's music and story. Will watch the rest of it tonight, god bless the DVR.

I am slowly being turned on to country music. Alot of that is coming from watching the Stones in Exile, and listening to exile again. God bless the Stones for the open-mind on the different genres of music. I love blues also.

Keith spoke here and there throughout the first hour. I didn't watch the last 1/2 hour, but I will tonight.

He did look very ancient!

Watched it last night.

Really good show IMO.

Merle Haggard is one of the greatest song writers ever.
