Open G with capo at 4th fret.

Onstage he's played it this way since Hyde Park 1969.

It sounds to me that it's standard tuning on Ya-Ya's. I thought he didn't use the open G capo at the fourth fret until...what, TOTA?

Someone PLEASE come up with a definitive thread that says it all - studio tuning, Circus tuning and all live tunings and get this shit over with.

Since Ive got a VT22 I don't buy it, and further it's as big as a wardrobe.cool smiley

R&R Circus - Standard

Live 1969 to 2007 - Open G capo at 4th fret

..... yeah I'd agree with that; open D tuning ..D A D F# A D (Studio) and capoed at either 1 (key E flat) or 2nd (key E)

I like the open G capo at 4th versions (and sound) the best (key cool smiley because to me that has the tightest sound. But I also really love the intro on the original studio version - that sort of B-E-A thing, if you play the intro instandard tuning, that they dropped when playing it live, maybe because it doesn't sound as good in open G (key cool smiley because the E and A have to be played too high

The flatness isn't due to tuning or capo's, but tape speed.

The SVT at Dirk Witte is a reissue from the classic series, and sounds nothing like a vintage SVT. Further to this, the SVT's the Stones used in '69 had a different tube layout and wiring then the '70 and onwards SVT's, and are near impossible to find (and if you find them they are burned out). Last, a VT-22 is a fantastic amp, but as different to a SVT as Marshall is to a Fender.

Maybe, but maybe not. In Ethan Russell's 'Let It Bleed' there is a pic of Keith playing the Bigsby Les Paul that he used for Honky Tonk Women in 'Gimme Shelter' but in this pic the guitar is capoed at the 4th fret. So he is either playing 'Jumping Jack Flash' or 'Street Fighting Man' That was quite a surprise because I had the preconception that Keith and Mick T. used the same guitar for the same song at every show. Apparently this was not the case...

Ethans pics also show that they used Fender amps for some of the gigs.

Well, no, as the reissue series doesn't remotely look like the vintage ones it's easy to spot when sitting in tram line 2.
