Plundered My Soul UK Itunes: a mistake release?
Posted by: georgelicks ()

It looks like the UK Itunes version was released by mistake, isn't it?

UK ITUNES VERSION (and the best one by far IMO, with Mick Taylor all over the place, more Jagger backing vocals and modern sound production)

ALBUM VERSION / 7' SINGLE VERSION / US-WORLDWIDE ITUNES VERSION / VIDEO VERSION (Taylor barely audible, Jagger down in the mix with less of his backing vocals, Lisa and Cindy high on the mix, more Keith, more Bobby and old fashioned sound)

Thanks for posting!

Very interesting differences here...

I prefer the "old fashioned" production of the album version myself.
But MT could have been more prominent in the mix!

really interesting!

the second one (album etc.) sounds more like a "band version" - the itunes one cleaner and more modern jagger solo stuff.

Thanks for posting this, I wouldn't have heard the UK version otherwise, cheers!

Now that I put my headphones on, it is obvious. BTW, the "Radio Mix" on the promo CD = UK iTunes version in the first video above, and yes, I bet it may have been released by mistake.

The difference is like night and day for me. Taylors guitar on the iTunes version blow me away every time, I can't listen to the album version cos it frustrates me that he's very low in the mix. I'm in bed with my girlfriend now and really want to put it on the stereo but I'd get murdered! If you haven't got the iTunes uk single you need to get it now.

No backing vocals on the verses (goddamn, I had the two on here plus the CD going at the same time - what a mess!).

The CD version has SOME of the backing vocals on the verses. But yeah, what a SHAME Mick Taylor's guitar is mixed completely OUT, those lead lines to the chorus.

We've been ripped off. The one with more Taylor guitar in it is a thousand times better. What a shame.

That rhythm electric guitar sounds like MT to my ears. The tone is completely wrong for anything I have heard KR play from those days.

I say it's new MT.

How could this iTunes version be an accident? Maybe Jagger didn't want to confront Keith for the album release, but he thought/knew this version rocked. Make it a special 1 week only freebie . . . like the flexi-disc in '72.

I bought my download version from Amazon UK and it's the "UK Itunes" version - available here:

It's the 89p single version - if you listen to the samples, you can hear the difference between that and the album version, which doesn't have Mick Taylor's guitar dancing all around "guess I was misunderstood".

Well, I guess Keith was correct. MT didn't play on it...at least the album version he heard!

Green Lady, thanks for the link but just for the record:
amazon.uk doesn't let everyone everywhere buy their downloads - i can't, for example

isn't that just stupid - the industry moans about pirating
and then puts barriers in the way of people who want to pay for stuff -
grr and bah humbug :E

the iTunes version is the best. Taylor's 1st guitar lead lick at the start of the song is ideal and suits it perfectly, something the album version misses out on.
Weird how this was left out of the released version.

This shows in a nutshell why the Stones are so frustrating sometimes.

This version is available on Demonoid as 320kbps mp3, it sounds even better than the youtube clip and blows away the original album version.
I did my own copy of the bonus disk replacing the album version with this one and with All Down The Line alternate as track 11.

That's very frustrating. Why mix Taylor out when they asked him to come in? What a rip off.

I want the UK version on CD.

I agree with that. It is a good song. And it's a good single too. Their last good single chart wise was Start Me Up. Their last good single songwriting wise was Out Of Tears.

I find Out of Tears a little to 'weepy' (pardon the pun).

Didn't you like Saint of Me as a single? I thought it was quite good, sounded unique compared to what they've done previously, and the other music out there at the time, and yet very stonesy.

Wow, what a difference, the US version kind of plods along by comparision. Can a yank order the UK version at Amazon?
