I agree, great movie. Love the way the light changes on Ben Johnson's face during his big sequence, which was not planned, just the clouds rolling by, one of those lucky accidents in film, a gift from the movie gods.

But even though it vividly illustrates all of the pent-up frustration of the pre-rock era, it doesn't really come across as a "Rockmovie" to me. American Graffiti, with it's all-night joys and pains and the overall rush of the rituals of youth played out with the exhilarating rock n' roll score seems to be more in touch with a rock sensibility: the FUN of it all.

Whereas by comparison, Last Picture Show is more of a soap-opera bummer. Still it was a great, and HUGE film, although now faded from memory. (And the reason why the film version of "The Rocky Horror Show" was dubbed, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"--a little joke now forgotten )

Peter Bogdanovich trimmed the shot of Cybill Shepherd removing her bra at the pool party scene to just a nanosecond on the later video versions. I imagine he did it to be nice to his new girlfriend, but it really robbed the scene of it's power, compared to the way it played in the original theatrical release. Rather than the quick peek-a-boo cut that they have now, in the original print he just stayed on her for this long moment, and you could feel her embarassment, plus there was this shocking revelation about her character: this really beautiful girl has some mediocre, sad looking t*ts.

Ladies And Gentlemen...THE ROLLING STONES
Shine A Light
Gimme Shelter
Performance
Almost Famous
The Doors
Montery Pop
A Woman Of Heart and Mind ( Joni Mitchell bio)
A Hard Day's Night
The Song Remains The Same
The Concert For George
Woodstock
You Gotta Move ( Aerosmith)
Cream at The Royal Albert Hall
Jimi Hendrix-Electric Ladyland
I would move The Concert For George way up the list, actually, and except for the top 5, the rest are in no real order of preference.

Sounds like this film left a bad taste in your mouth, Tele. My other half of my band has been trying to get me to watch this for months! Maybe he's trying to tell me something! Ouch!!

Can't believe no one's mentioned THE TAMI SHOW.

or ROCK'N ROLL HIGH SCHOOL!!

I noticed a few Wilco fans on this thread; if you haven't already be sure to check out ASHES OF AMERICAN FLAGS.

Oh and by sheer coincidence I saw a goofy rock movie just last night: ROADIE. It was actually pretty entertaining, w/appearances from Roy Orbison, Alice Cooper & Blondie (and Meat Loaf acting the title role).

Which, the Wilco one? No, it's a great film. Fascinating. It is edited with a sort of "Tweedy Is God" angle, which makes it all the more interesting. I highly recommend the movie. I think Wilco is very good, just that the movie captured certain things about them they may not have intended, just like "Don't Look Back" did with Dylan.

I think he was referring to your reaction to the Led Zep travesty.

Oh, the Zep movie was the height of self-important bloated 70s rock pretension. No doubt where some of the inspiration for Spinal Tap came from.

Still Crazy is another one to check out. Hans Matheson is a total babe in this one.

Wasn't looking too good, but I was feeling real well.
