I think the Stones should stay away from reggae - it's way too complicated for them to do right.

Yes, these are only some of the well-known reggae artists that agree:

Toots & the Maytals
Peter Tosh
Bob Marley
Wingless Angels
Max Romeo

Yet for some reason they've played with, gave tribute to, gave high praises etc. to the Stones over the years.

it's to their financial benefit to do so; when in doubt, always assume it's about the money

Agree with the poster who said that the Stones do Country and Reggae their own way. Far Away Eyes is mock country, but I'll take Dead Flowers, Torn and Frayed, and The Worst as the Stones making country their own.

Same with Reggae -- Send it To Me and Luxury are "Stones Reggae," while Too Rude and You Don't Have to Mean It are closer to "real reggae."

Cherry Oh Baby may be the second worst song the Stones ever recorded and released. I give first prize to Back To Zero and Winning Ugly in a dead heat.

sure Send It to Me grooves me!
(i'd call it "reggae-flavoured", not reggae ... but that's fine too)

>> can you think of anymore reggae songs the stones have done? <<

you left Luxury off your list - maybe on purpose?
Luxury and Crackin Up are more calypso-flavoured than reggae-flavoured, i think
but people usually include Luxury in the Reggae-Flavoured Stones List

>> Cherry Oh Baby <<

the wildcat-in-rutting-season backing vocals are brilliant! :E

Take Send It To Me, speed it up and add new lyrics = Neighbours. A much better song. I mean 'she may be Bulgarian, she may be the alien'. Please no.

LOL, i have no doubt. I listen to several top reggae artists (marley, cliff, wingless angels, and a local act - george wesley). There's no doubt that Stones songs like Feel On Baby, the cover of Cherry Oh Baby, keith's Words Of Wonder are top notch reggae tunes -- or even if you don't agree they are top notch then there's no doubt that they do reggae at least comparable to the other named artists. It's not even debatable. (although i would have to agree that Send It To Me is rather silly).

the stones do a myriad of styles their own way - blues, country, reggae, funk, soul - but i would never contend they perform at the same level of the respective masters on any of them.

Come on! They out-disco Donna Summer on Miss You!

I don't mind when they've had reggae-ish flavouring on some of their stuff, but neither this track nor 'Cherry Oh Baby' really work for me at all. I like Keith's reggae-ish stuff better, usually (Too Rude, You Don't Have to Mean It, etc).
