Im a fan of the 81 tour, its a very intersting one...it was the biggest tour they had at that point and in some ways was more slick, while it still retained the recklessness of the old days. Its A bridge between two eras. My first exposure to this tour was hearing Still Life and I have to say it kind of Freaked me out... it was so Show-Biz sounding to my ears, but over the years this tour has really grown on me.

Dude you had me with this thread until I read this post. Sorry Helter... your film ideas don't sound very groovy. For starters, when talking up a film project, its best to avoid using the key words "Independent HD video" and "Sundance". It's like saying you wanna start a rock'n'roll band by auditioning for "American Idol". Dare I say it, it's almost as bad as wearing pastel. D'entreprise cliche, comprendre monsieur?

Please don't take this the wrong, way, I'm not giving you a hard time. Just thought I would make a contribution to this conversation. If you wanna start a thread about filmmaking I'll see you there. smiling smiley

#1. I don't like France, Correction - I LOVE France and super love PARIS (some people, like Sway, don't know what they have-wonderful France-until its gone. You live in LYON, things might be different there so I don't know. Sure , teach me French for 1 Euro a minute and I'll teach you American English for 2 Euro's per minute smiling smiley (but you'll be up there with Obama's speaking ability - can't beat that sh*t) Don't worry Honey Bunny, I'll have Fluent French down in 6 months when I move there, no problemo

#2 FASCISM? My parents got to Sweden in 1944 (thank you Swedes !!!) to ESCAPE Fascism and then moved to the USA (when it was a great country) in 1950. I was born between 1955 and 1960 in Detroit (WHITE STRIPES, IGGY, MC5, MADONNA) and moved to LA when I was 2 yrs old. Detroit is too cold and a giant mess. My family can tell you a thing or 2 about the evils of Fascism cause they were in the middle of it, you weren't. Bullet holes in their coats from the Nazi guns, Friends exploding within shouting distance from small bombs hitting them, ships exploding as my mom was lucky enough to get on the other one - the non exploding one - headed for MALMO. Nazi Bastards shooting my uncle's 2 beloved dogs right in front of him (Give me a thick, strong stick and 5 minutes in a small room with those Nazi MFer's)..... it goes on and on.... SO, YOU DON'T TELL ME ABOUT FASCISM, what do you know little girl? - I lost plenty of relatives. You see my dear, I'm an American on paper only, I'm an immigrant, a nomad that wants out. The Indians are the only true Americans

#3 BUENOS AIRES. I know at least 6 people who live there. It's like a rough Paris with half the money Paris has, maybe less. SO what, still has gret looking women, great Steak and wine, and is a total cafe society. The apartments (French style) are about 75% cheaper than Paris - I can go for that. Have a nice weekend Madam Sway

1981 was my first tour. I saw them at Orchard Park and the first Pontiac. In Orchard Park (Buffalo) the wind blew so hard they had to cut the pastels down for fear of the entire stage lifting up and crushing the 20,000 on the floor. The pastels were shaped in the form of a flag etc but the replacement was not. Orchard Park was good because you could hear the band kick it into gear from Tumbling Dice on. The All Down The Line from this show kicked ass. Listen to the audience tape not the soundboard. It was still the Stones with Stu and Mac. They were ragged and raucous. They never played with such abandon again.

Saw them twice in 82 including the last show at Leeds. A completely different band when they came back at the end of the decade.

I think Mick had looked at other major acts in the late 80's and his own experiencies touring Japan and Australia and brought the idea of a "safe" show to the Stones. Some gains and significant losses IMHO ,but if they hadn't changed the way they did things,I doubt that we would have had a "band" for the last 20 years.

It surely wasn't meant unkindly. My English is just as good or bad as yours. But I like those French sentences. I still have a French course for advanced waiting for me. Well, it has to wait for the winter.

What 5 languages, except French and English? German I guess as well. But then there are two others yet. Italian and Spanish? I don't know either of them, though I can read them for a rather great deal, thanks to Latin and also French.

Never heard of that Dutch saying. 'A constantly indestructable selfconfidence'. Well, that's quite something! Too much for me, at least. I'm only human.

Yes I agree that he did look silly on the 78 tour as well and those pants were horrid! And yeah that's why I dropped the 'c' in fuk. smiling smiley

As for Keith, I mean his singing (if we wanna call it that) was absolutely disgusting. Listen to him and Ron doing the beautiful Simon and Garfunkle during "Shattered" for example. It's reprehensible. When Keith played in the 60s his playing and singing came first. Gradually however thru the 70s posing and pulling stupid faces that would scare a baby seemed to become more important. "Little T&A" is just cringing to look at. I never dare listen either. Well not anymore. His playing at this stage was still up to scratch although I have read that he fluffed about 70% of the intros to UMT throughout 1981 and 82. And I just don't care for some of the sounds "Start me up", "Satisfaction", "Beast of burden" for eg have hoorid guitar sounds on them for mine. But again overall I love the cd boots and dvd boots I have of the tour and I even like "Still life" even though I think it's a weird misrepresentation of the tour in general. And I love Seattle, Hampton and Arizona.....so there you go hey? smiling smiley
