It is widely reported in many books that the "Criss Cross" outtake by The Stones was 'given to a Japanese animation film called Metamorphosis' in the 1970s.

I can find no trace of such a film.
I'm guessing it was reported once as a rumour, and then repeated in Stones books.
Or does this film exist?

Anyone know about this film? Its one of the small mysteries I've noticed in the world of Stones. Cheers

Yes, the film with "Criss Cross" was exist.
The original title was "Metamorphoses", not "Metamorphosis".
I got confirmation from Sanrio Japan that "Criss Cross" was used during this movie.
However, "Metamorphoses" was changed its title as "Winds of Change" later and all music songs used in the movie were completely changed to others.
So we can't hear it now in the movie or DVD.

atsu69 you are a legend! Thanks, I have been wondering about this for years... Dang, I had the film title wrong too. I wonder if it is possible to find a copy of the original Metamorphoses film? Surely a Stones fan in Japan would have it somewhere

I asked many Japanese Stones fans but unfortunately I couldn't find it.
What I posted here was all I could know.
I really want to see the movie with original songs, too!

The film is a retelling of stories from Metamorphoses by the Roman poet Ovid,
set to rock music by Joan Baez, the Rolling Stones and the Pointer Sisters.
Metamorphoses tried to be the rock era's answer to Fantasia, but its original run was
critically reviled and closed as soon as it opened: according to many of its crew,
a lot of problems with the production, music and plotting were to blame.
Save Me might be brought by Robert Randles.
He was also a music editor of Down and Out in Beverly Hills.
