Well done Spain and congrats to all the Spanish people on IORR.

Best team in the world and the best team on the night won the World Cup.

Awful game and disappointed in the Dutch team - if they had ended the game with 8 men, I dont think anyone could have complained. What they were moaning about at the final whistle escapes me, to be honest. Spain were the only one of the two sides tonight who tried to play football.

What does that mean? only one side tried to play football?
I am not being smart ass, I am curious what you mean, what you saw.

I watched both sides attack on defense, they were both agrresive,
They wwere trying to get the ball. I saw both teams try to set up shots.
I saw Robbing mugged as he was going for a shot ... The game was rough
but how did Nederlands not try to play football.

I respect your opinion, what did I miss?

Figure of speech. The Dutch had 8 players booked and one sent off (and it could and should have been at least two more). At any level of football, thats absolutely brutal.

13 yellow cards and one red. And its hard to argue that any of them were unjustified.

I've never seen a Dutch side play like that. That was more of a kicking contest than a game of football. Very disappointing final.

I enjoyed the hell out of this tournament. Even though I was pulling for the Netherlands, congrats to Spain...World Champions!!! Well done.

Now I am sitting here baffled by the analysts on tv telling me that the final game was terrible. Jesus, I thought it was great. Two teams playing hard and gritty. Not so sure about those refs, though.

And Iniesta should've been given a red card for taking off his shirt while he was wearing a shirt with dirty talk (or whatever it was - I couldn't read it) on it beneath it.

You couldn´t read it but demanding a red card ?

Well done Spain. You were favourites from the start and you got there in the end. Very sorry for all our Dutch friends. You must be thinking that there is not football God. You will get there in the end. It was a great final and could have gone either way. Spain just got the goal that mattered and I guess that was their destiny. Now bring on Euro 2012.

Congrats to Spain of course. But Silver, believe me that you better win the last game like Germany did and ended this tournament with laughing faces than losing this way for the THIRD time (second time in extra time). We are WC second place. I only can say of the ref that he dominated the game in every respect. I missed the ref from yesterday, who let both teams PLAY.

Political: Does this unite Spain? What about Catalunia now? Do they
feel good as a part of the winning team? Isn´t this mixed team a good
catalyst for the whole of Spain? can anylone from Spain answer that?

Nothing wrong with grittiness and aggression but it was way too foul-ridden. Both of these sides have a (deserved) reputation for attractive, free flowing football.

There must have been about 55-60 fouls in that game (edit - it was 46. 28 by Holland). That doesnt suggest that the officials were the main problem. To be honest, had that not been a World Cup final, there would have been about 18 players on the pitch at the end. If anything, he let a few players away with some horrendous challenges to avoid ruining the game too much as a spectacle.

The best team won.

I don't know how the Dutch team thought they could win with that style of cheap, fouling football. It would have been a travesty if they had won on penalty kicks.

I am a Spain fan, so I enjoyed it, but to those who don't understand why Americans don't like soccer, this game was a great illustration, unfortunately.

Cheap analysis.
Your post illustrates Americans don't know much about football.

Thank You.

I am looking at this throuigh new eyes., someone who has not watched the
game of 20 years, and this is why I ask. I dont know football, but I know
sports, and it seems that the Dutch were trying to match up with the way Spain
plays. They saw how Spain played with Germany. and came after the ball..all the time ,aggressive..

I am not insulting any team or country whne I simply stating what I think I saw,
and I am writing it here for the record, just one persons opinion, added to the rest,
So with that said, and I could be wrong, but Spain had more talented actors
and divers (writhing in pain with shattered legs) than any other team. That is
just what I saw....and it seems they did a better job of convincing the ref...and
if that is part of their sports game plan, it worked, and they won .... ..then OK,
but it does not mean Nederlands was not playing, and of course the Dutch had more
cards, it only took the slightest touch and BAM ..Spain on ground writhing in agony.
A couple of calls were delayed as the player lay there in agony( until he bounceds up after the card was issued)
I taped the game... I am watching it again ..I am seeing the acting again.
The Dutch do a lil acting too, but not as much ...AND YES the one kick to the chest was bad, but it was not all like that.

From what I saw Brazil was the most rough playing team in WC. Brazil was brutal
so if anyone played nonfootball, they did and Nederlands today were not that brutal. imho

Just my opinion.....Thanks Gazza...you da man....

PS
I am not saying the ref fixed it ...or making excuses for a loss.....
I am only observing. I dont whine much in sports, it is what it is .. score 1-0

Guess the ref would´ve preferred to let them play only the aggressive style not only but mainly of Holland just couldn´t let him.

de Jong´s kung fu kick attack must´ve been a straight red after 25 minutes...so probably they felt invited to continue, which wasn´t the best idea.

The fact that he was wearing that shirt AT ALL proves it was premeditated. I don't care what it says. He went into the match with the intention of breaking the rules.

Like I said, the rules are as they are, so it's correct that he was only given a yellow card. However, his behavior proves that he's a bad person.

Said to my girlfried. If Spain not win this, will never see football again. Holland should have starterd 2nd half with 8.

Max, you'll understand that I'm still disappointed (well, for a long time I'm afraid), but it was fantastic to have you here, not only the best supporter a team can wish, but also very enthusiastic, optimistic and witty. I for one have enjoyed your contribution here unbelievably much, and saying that I don't want to do anyone an injustice because all regular posters here were just GREAT!!! MANY Thanks to all of you!!!

PS: Great that Forlán has won the golden ball. I've enjoyed his playing. A very and truly great sportsman in every respect.
