Seems like this song is more of the EOMS flavor as opposed to GHS

It sounded like a 2020 Mick Jagger on vocals to me.

Can't second that as parts of the lyrics seems to be unfinished and improvised. I don't think he could sing that loose in 2020.

anybody's got the chords for this good song!

I like what Jimmy does on the solos; they are very melodic and rhythmically good counterpoints to the vocals.

The name "Scarlet" is a good name for a title of a song but they already had "Angie" and Angie had to stay because one could have guessed from the start that it was going to be a huge hit.

Rockandroll,
Mops

I like it, like it, yes I do!

IORR outtake but given we'll likely never see an IORR deluxe it makes sense to release it with GHS.

Listened to it several times and the chorus reminded me of something.
Tortured my brain and .... picked "Dancing In The Light" from "that other bonus CD".
The rhythm of Scarlet's chorus is uptempo in comparison with that of "Dancing", but .... ah well, who cares. We spoiled Stones fans have again fun discussing and enjoying (or not for some) another bit of homework from the guys winking smiley

To me it partially reminds Tops from Tattoo you. Especially

YOU DON’T HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR MIND.
AND LEAVE THIS NEIGHBOURHOOD SO FAR BEHIND.
HONEY YOU DON’T HAVE TO CRY NO MORE.
WHEN I COME A KNOCKING, RIGHT AT YOUR FRONT DOOR.

tops

Have you ever heard those opening lines
You should leave this small town way behind
I'll be your partner
Show you the steps
With me behind your tasting of the sweet wine of success
Cause I'll take you to the top, baby

I just heard a snatch of it now (I'm working). But am definitely looking forward to this evening when I can crack a beer and listen loud.

I think I'm gonna like it!

Don't forget that Goats Head Soup incl. Angie had already been released more than a year before Scarlet was even recorded...so it wasn't a question of Angie staying on that album or not.

I also like it a lot and agree.. has a too many executive chefswinking smiley feel, but in a really good way. Musically, it really captures the early seventies sound and vibe, and Mick's vocals are fantastic.

It’s gone from Apple Music. It was there an hour ago.

Really love this song.

Rough, Ragged, a bit unfinished -- but,

Great Groove
Great Feel

And... Angie was recorded in 1972 for GHS while Scarlet was post-IORR release.

Maybe it gets u see the Goatshead Soup umbrella because they wrote it in 1973. Does Scarlet sound a little like Paul Simon’s Celia?

Sounds like a seventies outtake. But a seventies outtake is still better than almost everything post 1981... Because in 1974 the Stones were still cooking..

Yeah, I agree. It would need some polishing off course, but then it could be added to a bonus CD for IORR for instance grinning smiley
"Ah, we overlooked this one and should have been swapped with Scarlet, timewise"
But Ah, as long as we have fun until the new album will be released. Or did "they" (Universal and the band) decide to release every single song meant for the the new album as a single over the next to years? That way we can look forward to concerts with lots of new songs in 2022 spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

There are a couple of Stones songs that have been great (YCAGWYW, Happy) even though Charlie wasn't the drummer.

This isn't one of them.

I appreciate the release of this, as well as of Criss Cross ..., but nothing more, I understand why they were discarded, on the other hand Goats Head Soup was nothing special.
I hope they release an unreleased album soon ...

I’m not sure when Mick did it - in the 1970’s, now, or a bit then and a bit now.
