Still hoping that 2013 brings us the 40th anniversary deluxe addition of Goats Head Soup. Would love to hear this song with so much said about it by Jimmy Page, Don Was etc...

By coincidence someone just started a thread on "English Rose" and I really wonder if Scarlet is not the real title and they were just listening to a playback at De Doelen in Rotterdam when it was taped...

Apparently Don Was mentioned this again specifically last night during his presentation at the Grammy Museum. He described it as a "hit then, and a hit now". I'll ask next I see him why it didn't make the track list for Exile. Perhaps they discovered it was recorded after the time period, or they're saving it. Either way, we now know it didn't morph into one of the other tracks. winking smiley

Any news Teddy?

Scarlet is no longer MIA and in fact a 5" snippet can be heard here in the official GHS Deluxe Unboxing video : [youtu.be]

At 0:31 we have the world premiere of SCARLET !!! Sounds good with some prominent Keith backing vocals

"Scarlet, why you wearin' my heart on your sleeve, where it ain't suppose to be"

Can't wait to hear the full song !

OK, so we get Scarlet, Criss Cross and Through The Lonely Nights on a GHS bonus, along with another disc of Live Europe 1973. Sounds like a keeper.

Wow, that was not far off ten years back!

On 15 October 1974, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, and Ian Stewart recorded an unreleased instrumental at Island Studios and named it "Scarlet', in her honour.
Born: Scarlet Lilith Eleida Page.

Is this related to the stones release ?

Scarlet" by Keef and Jimmy Page

Surfin' the web I found something really interesting. Oh my god, how much I'd love to hear this tune!!!!!!!!

Just read:

On This Day In Led Zeppelin History
By Steve "The Lemon" Sauer

Today, Oct. 15, is the 30th anniversary of a real rarity: a song
Jimmy Page recorded on this day in 1974 with Keith Richards that has
still never been released. The song was called "Scarlet," and it
featured both Jimmy and Keith on guitar, with Keith providing vocals.
It also featured Ric Grech, formerly of Traffic, on bass.

According to an interview with Page in 1975, the track sounded like
it could have been recorded by Bob Dylan and the Band. "It sounded
very similar in style and mood to Blonde on Blonde tracks," he said,
comparing it to the 1966 album that included "Rainy Day Women #12 and
35" and "Most Likely You'll Go Your Way and I'll Go Mine."

Page said the time spent with Richards was "great, really good. We
stayed up all night and went down to Island Studios where Keith put
some reggae guitars over one section. I just put some solos on it,
but it was eight in the morning of the next day before I did that."

Some sources mention two other musicians on the track, one being
pianist Ian Stewart and the other being a drummer. In addition to
being the Rolling Stones' mentor, Stewart was a special guest on Led
Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll" and the namesake of "Boogie With Stu." As
for who played the drums on "Scarlet," Page said in 1975 that he
couldn't remember. Some sources point to Bruce Rowland, who was
between bands at the time of the recording. He had just completed a
project with Ronnie Lane & Slim Chance and was soon to join up with
Fairport Convention.

Page thought the recording of "Scarlet" might eventually be used for
the B-side of a Rolling Stones single, but this did not come to be.
One year after the track was recorded, there was a rumor that Page
had recorded a solo album. Rolling Stone writer Cameron Crowe asked
Page whether it was true, and the guitarist explained that there was
no solo album in the works. "Chalk that off to Keith Richards' sense
of humor," he told the young reporter. "He took the tapes to
Switzerland, and someone found out about them. Keith told people that
it was a track from my album. I don't need to do a solo album, and
neither does anybody else in the band [Led Zeppelin]," he
continued. "The chemistry is such that there's nobody in the
background who's so frustrated that he has to bring out his own LPs."

It should be noted that at the time of this writing, there is chatter
that Jimmy Page currently has a new solo album in the works. This
would be his first since the 1988 release of Outrider, which
contained several original rock instrumentals, one new collaboration
with Robert Plant, and the single "Wasting My Time." The U.K.
newspaper The Independent reported Aug. 27 that Page "is currently
planning an album with guest musicians, along the lines of the recent
Santana albums." A blurb in Rolling Stone provides further insight,
stating that "each track would feature him playing a different, rare
guitar" and that one ax rumored to have been owned by Chuck Berry has
been provided by singer-songwriter Dan Hicks.

I think the fact that whoever uploaded it isn't allowing comments to be made tells you everything you need to know.

That plus the fact that it sounds nothing like the few seconds that were uploaded yesterday.

Pure clickbait

Actually, it was "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn."

But, yes, it was spoken to Scarlett (also the name of Jimmy Page's daughter) O'hara .

If Scarlet is October '74 then why is it a GHS track?

I know that Through The Lonely Nights's s on Rarities but they could have include that.
Then there's Alladin Story, Separately.

There'Tops isn't t there and Worried About You and at least one other from Tattoo You.

And others? Almost a whole second disc if you include alternative takes.

It's my favourite album, period. What concentrated crEtive energy

So the re- issue could have been a monster, or mother of all re-issues, especially with Brussels.

Not complaining, 'just saying', but worth saying.

Drift Away and Scarlet for IORR. Don't know if that leaves much else. (Just don't know).

Btw, I thought that Travelling Man was earlier than '72.
But as it's so amazing they better release it somewhere, someday ....or else!

Ok, thanks, never bought that.
But it's later isn't it?

I have it on a GHS bootleg - of which I 've forgotten the title, although I think it's called IORR but has GHS cover!

Cos there'll never be a IORR reissue (too weak an album, not enough good unreleased material) so they/Mick decided to put "Scarlet" on GHS?

The other albums that would warrant a reissue with bonuses would be TY.

Well Fingerprint File is fairly funk - the rest is rather the Stones having run out of original ideas and following others' muses - except TWFNO, which with FF makes the album worth buying.

Re Scarlet - interesting to have another bass player on a Stones album.

I think that Scarlet will be the reason for buying this re-issue.
Keith and Jimmy Page - Yes Please
