OT:NBA Finals

Rather than comparing rock bands to sports teams. I figured I'd go ahead and start an NBA Finals thread. Starts tonight. Classic matchup Los Angeles Lakers against the Boston Celtics. The Lakeshow will be tough to beat. But I'm calling Celtics in 7.

Anyone who grew up in LA in the '60's and experienced all that PAIN inflicted by the Celtics would never believe this could possibly happen: Can the Lakers catch the Celtics in championships in my lifetime? It's on my bucket list.

BTW: I was at the great Russell's last game at the Forum in '70. Very intense game. And very painful. A furious Laker rally falls short, again. After the game a friend and I were down on floor level. It was chaos. Suddenly, through the crowd appeared the great Jerry West, leaving the floor. His face was ashen, the look of shock and despair. I couldn't even bring myself to acknowledge him or say Hi. I will never forget the look on his face.

I went to High School with a kid whose Mom attacked Auerbach with shaving cream or some such thing. At the time Auerbach was the best reason to have a No Smoking sign inside the arena.

Celts looked tired and flat last night plus the Lakers were sharp. I hope the series gets better. I used to be a huge Celts fan bit the NBA game is not what it used to be that siad these two teams play a winning style of team ball. Kobe is the best player in the league and that includes the self annointed "King James" win something and the boast will ya! I give the edge to LA but don't count out Boston. i'd like it to seven regardless just to see some good hoops. Was it me or was the game called way too tight by the officials last night - let them play!

Boston 17
L.A. 10

When the Lakers were in a different town it clearly doesn't count.

Sounds like some sour grapes from the Boston naysayers...spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

The Celtics have 17 titles, and the Lakers have 16 titles.
Moving the organization from one town to another doesn't make a difference.
Just ask the the official NBA historians and statisticians!

I predict the Lakers will tie the record next year, and then surpass it the year after.

yes it does. in the NFL the baltimore ravens are the original cleveland browns. a few years later a a new team was created with a different owner and called the team the cleveland browns. so which team is the real cleveland browns?

anyways if NFL fans get to say the green bay packers ARE NOT the most successful team in the nfl because they don't have to most superbowl rings then NBA fans should get to say boston has 17 titles and L.A. only 10 because the L.A. lakers only won 10.

It was a disheartening end to what I had hoped would be yet another stumping of Kobe. I can't stand that man - if ever there was a pompous, arrogant, overrated MoFo it's got to be him. He's such a ball hog. That's what I love about this Celtics team, and what has actually helped to restore my love for the NBA, a sport I've not watched since Larry Bird, McHale, Parrish, and the rest retired. It got faaaaaaaar too greedy and overrun with punks, but Allen, Garnett, Pierce, Rondo, Robinson, T. Allen, Davis - they're all team players, and most of them put their faith in God, which is very refreshing these days, especially in a sport so wrought with accumulating as much wealth as possible. And Doc Rivers is a real class act as a coach. I love that guy and I love the Celtics - I'm glad that I have a chance to finally root for them again. I wish the outcome had been different, but it's just great to have a class act team in the NBA like the UConn Women's Basketball team and MOST of the Yankees. Great effort, C's - sorry the pay-off wasn't there.

And for the record, come on, guys - fess up to the fact that the Lakers are only 1 Championship behind now, as much as it pains me to type that.
