OT: Any Skeeter Davis Fans Here?

I've recently become slightly obsessed with the music of Skeeter Davis. Anybody else her a fan of here work?

I can't believe how little of her music is available on CD, even though she was quite a prolific and successful artist. (29 albums and numerous singles between 1960 and 1973, all on RCA). Plus a comeback of sorts in the 80s. Apart from several compilations, hardly any of these have had a CD release which really sucks. Thank the lord for second hand vinyl! lol

I'm a big NRBQ fan, and I'm sure you're aware of the album she recorded with them in the 80's, "She Sings, They Play."

She was also married to Q bassist Joey Spampinato.

I thought she was married to Al Anderson

BTW, Spampinato was the bass player in 'Hail! Hail! Rock And Roll'

It was Joey. Before that she was married to Ralph Emery, host of "Nashville Tonight."

I never knew that. My Mom worked at a country music radio station in the late 60's - early 70's, so I'm very familiar with Skeeter's music. Some pretty good stuff.

I'm gonna show my age here! Like many UK fans of a certain vintage, I listened to Radio Luxembourg in the late 50s on radio equipment and with reception that our kids wouldn't tolerate today. One of the DJs was Sam Costa, who was also a bandleader of some note. I remember him playing Skeeter's song 'The End of the World' and how it stood out from a lot of the other stuff being played. Still love the song today.

I also recall him saying that a 'skeeter' was a country name for a cricket or similar insect.

That's all, going back to whittlin' on the front porch now....

Meanwhile, I was still thinkin'.......

Skeeter=mosquito. An insect nickname, like Cricket or June Bug, ha ha. Popular down South.

Looking at her pic, it's kind of shocking to look at the style of those times; an adult dressed in a little girl dress and with a little girl hairdo. I imagine she was wearing blunt-toed patent leather Mary Jane shoes with white ankle socks.

Anybody here own the following Skeeter cd's which are long deleted and very hard to find:

Here's The Answer
Skeeter Sings Standards

Both were released by RCA I believe in the 80s or early 90s.

Cheers!
