Favorite obscure Bside-"Through the Lonely Nights."

I don't know what it is about this song that makes me love it. Thick harmonies, Mick Taylor or the simple song structure.
When I bought the single in '74, I turned it over that first day to listen to this unknown song and was hooked.
I just think it's a cool Stones track.

it's a great song period....the fact that it's not an Aside is Bside the point....

This is my favorite Stones b-side. I guess it's a GHS outtake that didn't surface until a year later on the flip side of IORR. Another great one that should have been on Rarities is "Think I'm Going Mad." I actually prefer the ER outtake to the touched-up version that appeared four years later on the flip side of "She Was Hot."

Great druggy, country, wah-wah song. It has the melancholy of the best of the GHS numbers. Might Taylor be one of the backing vocalists? I always wanted to think so. One of my favorite Stones tracks of all time.

Like doster, have loved this song since the day the IORR single came out. Would love to have heard them do this one live.

I was really disappointed this did not make the rarities disc. Now we can hope it comes as a bonus track on a future release?

Everything's Turning to Gold is phenomenal. Ronnie deserves great props on this scorcher.

Nou doubt about the best B-Side:

FANCYMAN BLUES (flipside Mixed Emotions, 1989).

Mine 2.
Unfortunatly never officially released on CD.
Should have fitted perfectly on Rarities Vol 1.

I think my all-time top obscure track is Jump On Top Of Me. I also love Everything's Turning To Gold & Thru The Lonely Nights, as others pointed out. Let It Rock is also a superb track.

Always loved it but felt it was one verse too short. It was on rarities too.

Through The Lonely Nights is on the Virgin Rarities album. It's half the reason I bought the damn thing. It would have been fantastic on Goats Head Soup.

Is the Think I'm Going Mad version on Static In The Attic the same as the B-side? This would have made Emotional Rescue a slightly stronger album.

Everything Is Turning To Gold is a great song. I've always been confused as to why it didn't make Some Girls but something bland like Imagination did. Very strange.

Those three songs are fantastic songs and it's a shame they didn't make the LP releases they were recorded for.

it'd be better on Emo Rescue!

Think I'm Going Mad is probably my fav. MTaylor does a nice version on "Too Hot for Snakes".

The Storm is a nice blues also. Not sure if it was ever issued as a "B" though.

No. This is the original ER outtake, not the touched up b-side. I prefer this version to the single release. ER could have been a completely different album with the outtakes I've heard (Claudine, Think I'm Going Mad, We Had It All, Let's Go Steady Again, etc.).

Besides Through the Lonely Nights there's "Child of The Moon" of course.
I kind of like it that Lonely Nights, Turning to Gold, Goin Mad, Child of the Moon, Jump on Top are all B-Sides. A top band is supposed to have brilliant obscure B Sides so we can have these threads.

Child Of The Moon is a fantastic B-side. They do have some fantastic B-sides. The shame of it is they didn't release enough non-LP B-sides. Too many LP tracks for B-sides.

Hell, an album of the non-LP B-sides would be great. I'm gonna make me one.

I think I confused people, LOL - Think I'm Goin' Mad was not on the Rarities Disc and that's where it should have been. Through the lonely nights indeed was - probably the best reason to buy the Rarities Cd as it was the first official CD release.

Agree that having awesome B-Sides makes our lives more interesting -- or at least our threads.

They're B-sides because they didn't fit the mood or sound of the record they were recorded for. Think I'm Going Mad would never have worked for Undercover. There's no ballad that could ever have gone on that record. It could have fit on Tattoo You, though (but was recorded after, yes?)

That's what makes it so great that they exist. It makes us hardcore fans feel that much more special for knowing 'em. Most would be lost on the album.

Through The Lonely Nights fit the mood of GHS perfectly. Can You Hear The Music should have been the B-side.
