Great song. Really didnt care from it based upon 30 second clip but a great song when you hear it all. Vocal is kind of like catch as catch can from 1987. Thanks Mick for the work put into this.

If this song was recorded from 89 on people would hate it. But since it was from 72 it's now a masterpeice.

Absolutely not!

A lot of people love "Precious Love" which was recorded in '89.

Wow...I could go either way on this one. I can hear it as a Jagger solo b-side. Then towards the end with the strings and gospel backup vocals it has a vintage patina to it. But there aren't any strings on Exile, right? More like a Sticky Fingers or Goats Head Soup outtake.

My BIGGEST isue is that vocals are WAY too high in the mix. One thing that makes Exile stuff so listenable over and over is that you don't get hung on the nonsense lyrics...because Mick ain't no Dylan. Mick's voice has sounded very affected to me since Dirty Work.

Overall, I like it. I wish that after Tattoo You they would have focused more on a traditional blues-based sound rather than chasing sonic trends. I mean what would you rather listen to from Steel Wheels...Continental Drift or Fancyman Blues?

actually this vocal is one of Jagger's best post 1989!!! he pushes himself more than I have heard....but still would have loved 1971 vocals...cant win them all!

An OK tune; like the music; hate Jagger's vocals. Sounds like a Jagger solo to me.

This video seems to capture with pictures what Exile on main street was all about in the first place: ie: Deep America. The song remains neavertheless a contemporary effort because of the vocal and lyrics. I quite like it.
after watching it a few times i've come to agree with what you've said. i think i was expecting another video using exile era clips of the band.

I wouldn't go that far. There seem to be some valid reasons for the hard time or bashing or whatever. Beyond ridiculous ticket prices and imitating themselves are two pretty solid reasons to have some grief, especially when one loves a band like some of the people here do. But then that means they have expectations - and there is no equity in being a band or in having expectations. Either you buy what they put out, whenever it is, or you don't. There's not much more to it.

An old recording with new vocals on it that have nothing to do with the time the song was written and the vocals sounding bizarrely out of place? Certainly this tune won't be confused with Tumbling Dice, Jumpin' Jack Flash or Start Me Up etc. It's an extra tune that sounds too much like Loving Cup, which they obviously liked better, and now because of Jagger's new vocals it sounds like several solo tunes he's done. So that just shows that some people are paying attention and are not moved about it.

No big deal really. It's only - uh huh - and some people don't have to like it.

It would be much better if he hadn't pushed himself at all. He better had thought of the words: Let it loose, let it all come down and sung in the spirit of that sentence.

Btw: there is an essential difference between bashing (which goes without any reason at all and is similar to plain cursing) and underpinned criticism.

Good song, the vocals are fine. Though they're markedly different from '72, they do have the right feel.

I miss Mick Taylor on this one, and I don't think the strings sound very Exilish.

Certainly seems like it could be a Mick solo song. I like both the music and video. It's about life and the choices we can make. Notice the crossroads? Cool nod to the past. I also like that it leaves a lot to the imagination, as art should be. We used to get that only through song. In this video we get both. Hats off to everyone involved in making it.

I agree. Great song and I like the video very much.

Typical stones song insofar it has to grow on you....I predict loving it in 10-15 listens.
