Was on a Ryan Adams forum and someone posted about the current Bruce Springsteen tour. One of the songs on the setlist read "Johnny 99 (rolling stones version). I'm almost positive there is no Rolling Stones version of Johnny 99. Any ideas?

Bruce is playing Johnny 99. But it's his own song. Has nothing to do with the stones.

"It's just some friends of mine and they're busting down the door"

The only released versions of Johnny 99 are on Nebraska and the Live 1975-85 set. Those versions are acoustic with minimal backing.

However, for the 2004 Vote for Change tour, Springsteen did a more rocked up version, complete with Nils Lofgren on pedal steel.

My guess is that whoever was referring to the more rocked up arrangement, which, BTW, sounds nothing like the Rolling Stones.
