Hello Stones people. Was wondering were I can get a good copy of Salt of the EArth from the New York 9/11 show. If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great and appreciated.

Beautiful! And a great version for NYC. Mick and Keith together is wonderful!

Well, it is 9/11 here in the U.S. today. God bless those directly affected.

Weeks after the tragedy, The Concert for New York was held with NY City firefighters, families, first response teams, in attendance.

Searing memory was seeing Mick and Keith come together and perform 2 songs, first being 'Salt of the Earth'
I'll never forget the impact, and the way the song became better known to me then, obtaining new meaning and status.
The 2nd song was 'Shattered'
Mick said: 'You don't f*ck with New York.'
The concert was shown live on all TV networks for free. That's how I viewed it.

Bought the DVD tonight as I haven't seen that special performance of
Salt of the Earth since 2001, it is no longer available on utube.

It's 9/11 in the UK too funnily enough (or 11/9 as we Brits say).

Still defies belief that the tragic events of 14 years ago actually happened. As you said, God bless all those directly affected.

Wasn't the second song Miss You, or did they play three songs?

The second song was Miss You indeed. They did two songs only.

Yes, if memory serves - Salt followed by Miss You.

Don't remember them playing Shattered 35love - would have been a been a little inappropriate no?

Sorry, it was Miss You! Of course. I was thinking NY song, up late, etc.
Inappropriate Shattered, yes.

Strange choice given the sarcasm behind Salt Of The Earth.

I think that was meant as the nonsarcastic version, HM.
People don't notice the sarcasm anyway, just like they miss the violence being proposed in Sleep Tonight.

I remember Keith saying something along the lines of "Something tells me this town's gonna be all right...."

who was their backing band that night?

True, but if I am recalling right, Mick adapted the lyrics to make the song more uplifting.

The version with Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin of Guns N'Roses is brilliant.

*Keith did say that, I remember! I don't remember back up band (I thought it was all Stones)
and Mick and Keith's 2 songs don't have a lot of info. online I could find last night,
so I ordered the DVD. I have not seen this since 2001 live on TV.
When they came out and sang 'Salt of the Earth' I was floored. You'd swear it was written for that night, at that time, for that tribute. And it was a stellar performance. It was them at their finest. I kept thinking 'they must have gotten together beforehand to rehearse this tune'
I haven't watched the live version from '89/ Guns Roses, as now I am waiting for DVD.
I don't buy for a minute Jagger saying the song was not written serious.

Alright, couldn't resist the link, '89 with Guns and Roses just might be the best guest spot they've ever had- excellent! Unique, guest in their top prime, AND I read Axl is the one who dug up Salt-- yep, take that warhorses (whatev that is, but you must admire/appreciate these rare live gems).
Love this tune!

The axl Rose of 1989 was a different axl rose. He changed at the beginning if Use your illusion tour (ispired by Sw tour of the stones).

It's not a question of what Jagger said or didn't say - and "sarcastic" is not really the right word.
The original lyrics are very condescending/disdainful of "ordinary people". As noted above,
he altered them for the Concert for NYC. The lineup according to the great NZentgraf was:

Line-up: MJ (voc)/KR (gtr, voc)/Paul Shaffer (keyb)/Felicia Collins (gtr)/
Sid McGinnis (gtr)/Will Lee (bass)/Anton Fig (dr)/Alan Chez (tp)/Tom Malone (tb)/
Bruce Kapler (sax)/Nikki Richards, Elaine Caswell & Curtis King (bvoc)
