In a wet dream I see the band on the steps of the Festival Palace in Cannes doing their small Exile set:

1. All Down the Line

2. Plundered my Sould ("we have a brand new song for you which we started on - when was it Keith - some 40 years ago?" )

3. Casino Boogie ("the next one we haven't played for a long time. It's certainly nice to perform it here in Cannes, Let's hope we can still get the lyrics right...").

- Jagger saying some words about the Exile project, the documentary and the recording at Nellcote, a few hints about the future... we haven't seen or heard the last of them yet... before introducing the band, including: "a couple of guys you might recognise - a guitarist we just flew in from the States where he is presently on tour, and a bassplayer who we found living in the neighbourhood"

4. Tumbling Dice.

A few days of rehearsals in beforehand would do the trick. Let's pull it off...

Well they've never played Casino Boogie live. But otherwise that does look like a nice doable mini set.

there's a reason they go on such long tours - because it takes them a month or more of rehearsals before they can remember/relearn how to play their songs. There's not a lot of point to rehearsing for a month just so they can do one show that's only 20 minutes long

Yes and I guess that one would take a few days of practise, and maybe Plundered as well. The other two shouldn't be too difficult though...

This idea of playing a 'classic' (well, not really but like "Tommy", Waters' upcoming Wall tour, etc) album in its entirety leaves me cold - let Phish play Exile...Rather see the RS play a hot set they can get behind. Including next tour stuff from a new (final?) album. Ron's a Stone 35-plus years...Taylor might show for the one-off Cannes, and Bill too who spent half of Exile MIA (busy writing Monkey Grip I spose)

Stephen Kijak
Special screenins / United Kingdom / 1h01 / Directors' Fortnight 2010

At the end of the 60s the Stones were at a turning point hounded by the press, battling drug busts, and facing possible financial ruin, the band throws down the gauntlet and decamps to the south of France to begin the most arduous recording sessions of their entire careers for an album that in time will come to be regarded as one of the greatest rock and roll albums ever made. This is the story of the Stones in exile. This is the Stones fighting for their lives. This is the story of the making of Exile on Main Street.

I wouldn't call Made In The Shade and Forty Licks reissues - they were just new releases, both toured for, with Licks having the single played live and the other three new tracks anyway.

One could say that the Voodoo tour highlighted the Virgin reissues since they did play select tracks from the various albums. That might be as close to a reissues tour as they've ever done.

Since the Exile line up of Mick/Keith/Charlie/Bill/Mick T is very much alive, it would be a travesty (as well as a missed opportunity) if all of them did not appear. Doesn't mean Ronnie has to stay home, but this is Exile, after all.

Exactly correct. I love the line about "missed opportunity." Indeed.

A party will take place on Paul Allen's yatch .
But I bet L- Wren will be there too,so I'd better forget about some hot kisses in Cannes .

I bet on an live interview of the band (or at least MJ & KR) on the Canal+ open air TV stage.
But a Rolling Stones musical performance on the same stage seems to me very improbable.

But on the bright side, just perhaps it suggests they will be playing 2 or 3 songs (no doubt including Tumbling Dice, yawn) otherwise why would Ron be there?

Tumbling Dice makes you YAWN ?????????????????????????????? Have you recently succumbed to some dreadful illness or something ?

Other than the party at Mr Allen's yacht, They'll do the "monté des marches" with Stephen Kijak for the film presentation (who's they? Good question)

Maybe they'll do the Canal+ interview but usually there is no stage on the plateau, so I don't think they'll play there. Will they follow up on U2's steps and play the "marches", I really don't think so (hope I'm wrong)
