I Ain't Signifying

That thread with the little bits of several Exile outtakes including a different version of this tune - after listening to THAT one, I still like this one better. Reminds me of a sort of prelude to Hide Your Love only better. Perhaps that is where Hide Your Love comes from?

Can't see why Mick thought this one needed new vocals...

This should be perfect bonus disc material,an unreleased, complete song from the Exile sessions with a full band performance and an original Jagger vocal. Why there appears to be a different take with a new vocal on the new cd is a bit odd really.

turns out it's all new music, tg. they've cleverly grafted onto the recordings some tape noise from the original master EOMS tapes to give it that authentic feel, though....

because he wants the present day stones to feel needed, pretty insecure IMO, but hey at least its semi new stuff

Are you referring to the audio that is posted in this thread/youtube video?

This is an outtake that has circulated in bootleg/collector's circles for many years. There's nothing 'new' about it.

As other's have stated, for some unknown reason the Stones chose to release a re-worked version of this as part of the Exile remaster set. The outtake posted here is generally purported to come from the summer of 1971 in the south of France. Possibly it comes from another session in the 69-71 period.

The version released on the new Exile set is definitely not this one.

Thank you -- I was getting confused by this thread. I thought Skipstones intent was to play the original outtake. But seems like people thought this was new or were joking.

Anyway -- I agree SkipS. I completely adore this track and can't imagine "improving" on it, but will look forward to hearing Mick's what 21st century vision was on "I Am Not Signifying, Thank You Very Much." winking smiley

Yeah, my intent was to present the "original" outtake. Original meaning the only one I've ever heard. Never knew there was another version of it. Which doesn't surprise me but this version is so much better than the version that is seemingly on the second disc.

Gazza, you mentioned that Dancing In The Light and some other one, maybe it was Aladdin Story, are different takes...then what? The boot versions? Surely there are multiple takes of every song. But it would be hard or possibly impossible to get Nicky Hopkins to show up on a new recording of I Ain't Signifying as some people have thought occurred.

So having ignored the best version of I Ain't Signifying, which had a vocal on it already, they found this one and added vocals to it - yet it borders on bland where as the other one is simply a knife to the throat.

A real head scratcher eh?
