Taylor's an enormous part of the effectiveness of Plundered My Soul. The Stones need Taylor desperately, i just wish they could all bury their egos and work together, if only in the studio on unfinished archive tracks. Those A Bigger Bang tracks would have sounded significantly better also with Taylor's contribution.

Just as the Stones, Taylor has seen better days. His playing nowadays can not be compared with his playing 35 years ago.

Mathijs

Are you basing this on that rather lame performance of CYHMK that someone posted a few days back? That was jut a bad night, other recent clips were posted showing MT in much better form.

Ross

I am basing this on his rather lame performance for the last 10 years.

As opposed to The Stones' current lead guitarist's blazing performances over the past 20 years? I've seen MT twice in the past 10 years and his playing was superb. His voice, band and original material not so much. That would all be fixed if he were to resume his rightful position with the boys!

It is amazing how ANYTHING must be made into a Wood vs Taylor argument. Mathijs cannot say something about Taylor without someone coming up with "and what about Wood? Huh? Huh?" Teeeeeedious...

Well, I was being a little snarky, sorry about that!

The current issue isn't so much Wood vs. Taylor (as I teeeeediously drug it down to), but more along the lines of the possibility of MT re-joining in a larger capacity now that he has apparently done some recent work on the Exile project. Is that door open now? Especially since the alternative doesn't appear to be in any condition to tour. I think they would be touring now if he were. Of course, MT isn't exactly the picture of health these days either.

Sure it's a longshot, but it seems more likely now in light of recent events. It might be a creative shot in the arm to prevent the next tour from becoming "Bigger Licks 3".

You are aware of what year it is right? That you're basing your statement on something that was done in 1971? Why does this kind of thing continue? Mick Taylor, in no way, would or could benefit the Stones right now. He's not what he was, just like how they are now. I don't get what difference it would make. Not even one percent.

just listened it again. ok, it's only 30 seconds but i'm not impressed at all.
it's a abit like a new painted and restored ancient church. it just doesnt feel right. jaggers voice is too forced, the guitar sound are fake-vintage and the production aswell. sounds, as stated before, like another awfull don was crime...
hope the rest is gonna be better!

"The alernative doesn't appear to in any condition to tour" - that is a funny line!grinning smiley

But I am not so sure about the other alternative either. Is Taylor really in condition - physically, mentally - taking the spotlight and perform some two hours to huge audiences? Can he really handle the gig? I mean, he's been in a rather small club circuit for so long now that he should adapt altogether a different attitude and approach to step to Rolling Stone shoes. Ronnie is an awful player these days but but he is a show man, looks good and thereby justifies his presence. I just can't really imagine Taylor fitting to the Stones concept anymore. He is no showman, not particularly Rolling Stone looka-like - all he can do is to play brilliantly (as he once did). He surely would not to be allowed to have any "off nights" (which he seem to have quite often these days) because all he has is the guitar skills. Otherwise he is totally useless. Can the Stones really rely on him?

Yeah, he could be great in studio or having some quest appearances, etc. but really to tour - if they ever will - with them, I am a bit skeptical...

You miss read me. I've placed my order for my version and I think its probably the best "product' released by the stones in an age.

BUT, just a few hear listen repeatedly to the Stones till they find something wrong then spout about it hear. All I was saying was chill out and enjoy it. Before not to long you'll get nowt from an active Rolling Stones

I totaly agree,Doxa. With MT's history of cancelling gigs and tours due to a myriad of health issues, I doubt he could be counted on for a full fledged tour.

Maybe something like The Allman Brother's Beacon stands in a few cities might be less strenuous for all of them. That could be a cool farewell tour...camp out in a few major cities for extended runs in smaller venues. Bring back Bill and MT for select shows that would be filmed and recorded for DVD and a live album.

Yeah, I know, pipe dream, but I would sure love to hear him play with them. Not to be teeeeeedious again, but other than MT's looks these days, I don't see how his return could make the situation worse.

Anyway, Keith will NEVER allow the return of Mick Taylor. For just ONE reason : the boy can play. Not as good as 1972/73, but for sure his "off-nights" are better than Keith'n'Ron "off-nights".

Saw him last saturday. He was great, He wasn't drunked. He played like a 62/63 years old man. He sang a new line during his "Late At Night" song : "you took my money - you plundered my soul", and then, he sent us a pure BB-King typed solo. I think he added a guitar on that track on the new Exile, to the request of MJ, knowing he was not going to get a dime for that. Today, during "off-nights" he is still better than Keiff'n'Ron during "on-nights".

Il sait jouer, le garçon. Il le sait encore.

I'm a big blues fan and would hear Keith and Ronnie at any old time instead of Taylor.
I'd be amazed to hear 'em play "Satisfaction" one more time. but when I hear "Secret Affair" & "Twisted Sister" I'm bored to death. sorry.

Taylor hasn't got too many good songs in his repertoire and he sounds tired since the 80s. I'm downloading his recent boots and I like them but it's nothing that good - maybe it's a sentiment only. he still can play but somehow is not interested in doing it.

leave the fight behind... but for the first time for me it's R & Keith vs Taylor...

Nope, a lot of people here have no idea what year it is. Some think Black and Blue just came out and there's still hope of Mick Taylor returning to record new material with the boys and making Exile part 2. They actually speak as if IORR andGHS just came out and were a bit of a step down but they will get the magic back.

Some think Brian just died and wonder who will they ever get to play all the various instruments and slide parts on the blues covers album they will do next.
Some think they still play arenas in 1978 and wonder why tickets are so high.

But most everyone thinks that 70 year old men can recapture the skill and creativity of their youth if only they would remember the fans and forget the dollars.

Any way you look at it, makes it awful hard to appreciate what they are putting down now.

Does it suprise anyone that Taylor really did come back and finally got a new song from the Exile era with Taylor's participation. Nothing short of miraculous if you ask me, considering this is just about the only way it could be done without destroying the current band and chucking Ron Wood....and still...people are bitchin'

...

But that's not equal.. it's not Keith & Ron vs Taylor as guitarists per se you are here contrasting but rather The Rolling Stones and Jagger/Richards catalog vs. Mick Taylor solo artist with his mediocre songs and nobody bands...

Yeah, I would also rather see Keith and Ronnie messing with "Satisfaction" because I'd love to be in that situation wittnessing that, you know having people like Jagger and Watts and the whole show there as well... But most likely I wouldn't be much interested in listening the "Satisfaction" guitar "art" from bootlegs afterwards.. (but if there would be Taylor's guitar to be discovered from that "mess" I'd die to hear that!) tongue sticking out smiley

So I guess what people here are talking and speculating is not Taylor's solo artist works but what he would sound like within the Stones framework and how he would contribute there. (And I need to add: from the base what I hear from that little clip - when the solo phrase begins for few seconds - it sounds AWESOME, doesn't it?)

Taylor has to have a bandleader, not be one. he should hook up with Mayall... or somebody.

I agree. For example, I have enjoyed recently more of his playing with Wentus Blues Band than with his own band (you can hear the difference even there even though he plays more or less same songs with both bands). Someone needs to give him discipline and show his proper room (as in 1969-74, that is, during his peak...)

LOL!
I agree! Didn't think about the bass, but I thought Taylor's guitar had a Through The Lonely Nights/GHS-feel, and the drums didn't really sound like 1969-70 or LA '72, though possibly Nellcote with some modern sound processing. What a crazy blunder if this track isn't actually from the Exile period. grinning smiley
