I remember posting in another thread not long ago that in my opinion a John Fogerty and Keith collaboration would great to see/hear. Dont think it has ever happened so far.

In the last decade of tours, I always felt that all those cool licks and grooves Keith pulled out for songs like "Sympathy" came from the "Fogerty" handbook. Even some of the rhythm playing on "19th Nervous Breakdown" (B2B tour, especially)...has a bit of that Fogerty open-strings/hammer-on action. in fact, Keith always pulls it out for any song played in the key of E...which many of Fogerty's signature sounds/licks also come from.

Forgerty is one of the few men his age that can still sing with the same fire as his youth. I can't think of any others like him off-hand. FANTASTIC live - still.

I thought Jagger had put down CCR's music as being too simple and basic.

McCartney still sings his heart out, full on for three hour shows barely missing a note, from highs, screams, and lows...

You are kidding about Stu Cook?

Always loved CCR. Though they weren't really a "band" if you listen to Fogerty tell it. He says he basically taught all of them their parts and wouldn't let them in the studio when he was mixing because they all just wanted their instrument louder.

"Yeah, I'm into a very weird thing with that band. When I first heard them, I was really knocked out, but I became bored with them very quickly. After a few times, it started to annoy me. They're so basic and simple that maybe it's a little too much"

Maybe, but listen to the live tracks from '71 when Tom Fogerty had left and John had to take all the guitar parts and sing - he still pulled it off with remarkable energy. These are great, great performances.

I think Keith said something similar in an interview ca. 1969/1970. But I guess they missed the point somehow, because despite the simplicity CCR never get boring, and in terms of performance, fusing influences and sheer musicianship they were quite sophisticated. In fact they did change nuances from record to record. Each CCR album has it's very own touch.

Brian Jones loved CCR. It would had been so great if he had joined them after he left/got sacked from the Stones.

I think the first song they taught me on guitar when learning chords was Proud Mary, because of it's simplicity.

But...I agree, one of, if not the best American band ever.

I remember seeing a show with Joe Satriani, playing other bands songs that were so simple yet so unique and explaining he loves that when a band takes a very simple guitar part and makes it sound so powerful (his example I believe was U2's "I Will Follow").

In the famous 1970 Rolling Stone interview with Wenner, John Lennon said he listened to CCR, saying "they make great clearwater music".
