GYYYO Decca vinyl question
Posted by: bigtyke66 ()

I just came across a copy that has a white rather than the common blue Decca label. It's made in the UK, and there is no marking on it to suggest it's a promo. The vinyl has a lighter weight feel to it than the original pressing, suggesting that it's an issue from later in the 70s.

Any ideas about what this is and when it might have been issued?

Thanks!

Thanks, but that was the first place I looked. GYYYO is not yet described, and there is no mention of white labels.

D.Hoffmann listed in his WEISSBUCH the UK b/w label as promo.

Even if nobody can tell for sure, IMO, it's a promotional copy issued in 1917, circa, together with a few other titles such as 'Aftermath'. Not as rare as initially supposed.

Take a look at the labels pictured at the bottom of this page:

Not the last one.

I read on the Vikings forums that is some sort of export issues for Europe (mid 70s).
The inner bag of some of this records (my own copy) have a release date written on the paper.

That's it. Thanks! A mid-70s export version makes sense because of the vinyl weight. The label also has the GEMA notation along with BIEM NCB.

I have a blue label UK lo-stamper (judging by the matrix marks), which also has GEMA BIEM NCB on the label, and yes the inner sleeve of this has the date 8-70. Of course, the album was released 09-70.

I would suppose that any Stones titles issued in 1917 must be EXTREMELY rare! They're worth seeking out, though, as nothing beats the "warmth" of a good ol' wax cylinder!

There are several versions on the story here. The actual reason for these white label records is not known as far as I know. But let me give you the options:

Export LP: It has been claimed that they are export LP's. In that case, where did they export them? Most of the copies being sold today are in UK

Promo LP. There is no Promo text what so ever on the LP's or on the sleeves. A few years back I got Satanic white label and the person I bought it from got it new around 1973 from his local record shop. So they were sold in UK in around 1972-74. If they were promos, what did they promote?

Normal stock copies. It may be that they are just reprints done for making the LP's available in connection to some bigger tour? Maybe 1973?

Thanks Jan. It seems as why these discs were produced are a bit of a mystery. I saw the GYYYO in Los Angeles, but they also had a really nice copy of the first regular pressing. I went for that one instead of the white label.
