You cant go wrong with anything by Little Feat up to and including Last Record Album. Lowell George's solo album " Thanks I'll Eat It Here" is a flawed gem, flawed but still a gem.

In my opinion, some of the soloing on that clip sounds like Mick Taylor from Euro 73.

If you want to hear Mick Taylor with Litte Feat, listen to A Apolitical Blues from their first live album which I believe was recorded at the Rainbow. When I first heard Sailin Shoes, I thought Stones. However, listen to Steve Earle's Go Amanda on Jerusalem. It's obviously a Faces tribute right down to the Stay With Me ending. However, the groove recalls both the Faces and Little Feat. Steve Earle's Stones tribute on that album is The Best That We Can Do - Get Off Of My Cloud drum intro and recycled Jumpin Jack Flash guitar riff. Lowell George is on Mick Taylor's first solo record.

I love old Little Feat. My former boyfriend has been working for and touring with them the past 10 years - apparently they're really wonderful down to earth guys.

How are they these days minus Lowell George? I'm thinking about catching them live this summer.

seem to recall a reading a story of how some of the stones wanted to jam with little feat at a club. Lowell turned them down because the stones apperently sent a manager to ask...

I think Truck Stop Girl is one of the most poignant, beautiful songs ever written, and the Byrds' version, with Clarence White singing, is almost as good as the original by the Feat. Almost.

I envy you. When I first discovered Little Feat, I was 16, they had just come out with their double live album taped in DC and they were unbelievably hot. My uncle turned me on to them. Every time I hear them, it reminds me of him. He was only 4 years older than me and he's gone now.

rollin into Baltimore

I remember reading a review of LF in Rolling Stone or CREEM back in the early/mid 70's...LF were HOT but not huge..but standing & dancing next to the stage was Jagger/Peter Wolf & several other rock stars...knowing Lowell George, not surprised he turned Mick down...peter

My friend says they continue to be awesome. The concerts are a great time and musically tight and fun. However, he grew up seeing them play at really little gigs in the mid 70s, and works for them, so he probably loves them unconditionally.

My guess is they'd be great to see outdoors in the summer with a good happy crowd of people who are excited to see them.

Here's a fairly recent vid of them

Nice piece on Lowell George and Little Feat in this months Mojo. Some R.S. references as well.

Can't think of many other bands or artist whose first 5 albums could match Little Feat.

Anybody else noticed the similarity between the set of photos on the inside cover of Little Feat's and the postcards that came with Exile? Both were made to resemble movie stills.

Back in the 70s I remember Little Feat fans proudly saying that the Stones had ripped them off. However both albums came out in May 1972 - so who came first? It's too much of a coincidence.

Anybody know the story?

They've been 'minus Lowell' for over thirty years but they're still one of the best live bands anywhere. The set list is never the same though they almost always do "Dixie Chicken" in one of two arrangements, a 10-12 minute version or one that can push half an hour. If they start vamping on Miles Davis' "So What," you'll know you're in for a super-sized portion of "'Chicken."

My only (minor) complaint with the current version of 'Feat is singer Shaun Murphy's barroom blues-belter presentation can make them seem like a different band when she's featured.

Their tickets can be pricey but most promoters have learned their bar-ring more than makes up for the cost of Little Feat SO it should still be affordable. Go. Just GO!

Little Feat is one of the few great bands that allows for their live music to be posted on the internet archive web site (notoriously pupulated by just about every Grateful Dead concert there ever was!).

Click the link below fo audience AND soundboard recording of their shows dating back to the Lowell George era. And, yes (as you will hear),they are still amazing!

Thanks man. It's ok. I did, however, see Lowell George's last show the night before he died in '79. Good god was he fat. Must have weighed 350 lb., had these big white overalls on. I guess let that be a lesson not to mix twinkies and coke. And I don't mean coca-cola....

Note: Shawn Murphy is no longer in the band. I can't remember the details, but I think it was the band's decision and not her's. Financial reasons if I'm not mistaken. She is now fronting her own blues band and has an album out. Haven't heard the new band or the album.

I first got into Little Feat in 1988. It was after Lowell George had died and they were on their reunion tour and came to the concert hall I was working at. None of us young guys new who they were. Our production manager told us they were a great 70s band who had lost their leader and were trying to capitalize on the name. By the end of the night, we all realized how wrong his assesment of the situation was. They were brilliant that night and have been the dozzen or so times I've seen them in the past 22 years.

Watching & listening to them, you can tell that they all really enjoy playing with each other. It's a joy to see when so many artists can seemingly mail in their performances (North Mississippi Allstars & Dumpstaphunk are a couple of other bands that I would say fall into this category).

I highly recomend anyone with a few extra bucks in their pocket find their "Waiting For Columbus" live album (recorded while Lowell George was still in the band). Any of their studio albums are also worth searching out as well. My favorite is probably the one from 1987 "Let It Roll" due to that being the tour they were on when I first caught them live.

Whoever it was who stated earlier in this thread about them being "down to earth" was accurate from my experience with them... The theater I was working at was on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USA, about 75 miles from Boston. The band actually read the contract rider and actually prepared specifically for our theater having a basketball court in the parking lot. The bass player and percussionist both got off the bus dressed head to toe in LA Lakers clothing with a brand new Magic Johnson basketball and let us know they were preparred to "kick our butts" after sound-check. While we were able to take one of the three games we played, the band had a lot of fun making fun of us over the PA during the show. I bought "Waiting For Columbus" the next day and "Let It Roll" about a week later. Been a fan ever since.

Go see this band. If you're a fan of good music and good musicianship, you'll have a good time even if you aren't familiar with their music.

Peace,
Mr DJA

one of my favorite bands little feat .they are so much more than just the geniuis of lowell george .bill payne master of the keyboards (this guy is so good he would fill stu's shoes really good with the glimmers mighty fine praise coming from yours truly ) and paul barrere wow what adjectives can i use to describe his masterful wizardry of the six string fender strat, ditto with fred tackett the other guitarist in little feat the southern gentelman of the band (ive meet both of these guys )who i first saw in 1979 playing lead for the bard himself BOB DYLAN when he was touring in support of his christian album (i think it was called slow train coming).when little feat reformed in the late eighties they had all the orginal guys minus lowell bless his soul and they added craig fuller from pure praire league (remember the song "amy")man such great vocals coming from fuller to go along with barrere vocals whose voice in my book is even funkier than lowell george voice wow o wow .after fuller left he was replaced buy the female vocalist who im told is no longer with them .
