Uncut refers a fan that helped Mick and Keith by sending some boots from Exile period. Is this fan a member of IORR?

I thought it was you who helped out on the Beatles Anthology.

If they asked a fan for help with the EXILE re-release and he sent DIRTY WORK outtakes, I suspect it was Joey from Gazza's board.

Whoever it was who sent Jagger late 70s outtakes thinking they were Exile sessions should have been strung up.

Imagine being selected for a job like that and blowing it so badly. I think I'd die of shame.

he's probably a relation of the guy who wrote the sleevenotes for 'Rarities'

I'll bet they knew exactly what they were doing. By sending Mick Some Girls-era material, they were probably hoping Mick would say "This isn't from the Exile sessions. Sounds more like Some Girls. But hey, it's really good, isn't it? Maybe we should deluxe Some Girls next".

I wouldn't put a lot of weight on this tale. We only have it from Mick's pov don't we (?) and he himself can't tell what year, or often, what album a track is from when playing it live. Keith doesn't remember (or claims not to) recording several of the Exile outtakes at all. The fan (if he actually exists) may have been the only one who knew his stuff but Mick thought the tracks were too grungey so sent him packing...

LOL.

That word 'grungey' again. Nice 'Uncut interview' reference.

I got the vague idea in talking to Don that the bootleg expert was based in LA. Also, that they were an internet user (no mention of this site). They also got hold of a couple of the sessionography books as reference, Zentgraf's for one I believe. In addition, they're also using a fairly well-known rock journalist and former A&R guy based in Los Angeles as an extra pair of ears in hopes of keeping it real. I think this is who interfaces with the "expert fan". None of these are me, by the way.

Given that Mick thinks the Stones' 1997 session with BB King was 5 or 10 years ago (depending on the interview) and that the EXILE sessions start during the LET IT BLEED sessions and include all of STICKY FINGERS, I wouldn't be sure that their fan source was as far off as Mick claims.

Well, a couple of the songs were written as far back as 1969 during the Let It Bleed sessions so maybe that's what he meant?
1969 versions of Loving Cup, Shine A light and All Down The Line are all available on Bootlegs.

They dont appear to have, unfortunately....

They also wouldnt necessarily know exactly whats circulated on bootlegs...which is why they asked people to research it.
