Hey, gang... what do you all remember of the Rolling Stones' Michael Jackson-esque-sounding single, "Too Much Blood," released as a single and music video in 1984? It even got a dance remix around 1985. But it was never performed live by the Stones, if I recall correctly.





Jackson, who died in June of 2009, released the "Thriller" single and video in 1984, too.

However, I dig the scenes where guitarists Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood use chainsaws to attack Mick. This is the part of the video that one may compare to "Texas Chainsaw Massacre."

I like it very much. They where exploring new land with this one. I think it was as very brave move and SONG.

Great song, had a lot of air play but can't recall it was released as a single back then

the true story that it is based on is grotesque. The guy got away with murder and is now a semi-celebrity in Japan.

Seeing the video after soooo maaanyyy years I can't help noticing that it was a bigger Thriller rip off than I thought at the time. This video is good evidence of the hugeness and impact of Jacko.

But: it was probably the last time The Stones actually tried hard to be "current" and follow the trends.

Funny though how different this video and song is compared to "She Was Hot" that was a pure retro song to be reflected in the video costumes as well...

It would be intersting to know how much the invention of video as an important media had effect to the actual song-writing... the lyrics of "Undercover of the Night", "Too Much Blood" and "She Was Hot" are so visual, descriptive, almost like video scripts... There is not much metaphors - a'la "Start Me Up", "She's So Cold", "Emotional Rescue" - that are much more difficult to translate into the film (well, "Neighbours" is expection - and about the only song written for TATTOO YOU...)

Listen closely to the guitar work on Too much blood. It is amazing how they managed to
put down that "new wave" sound in a perfect way. According to timeisonourside Jim Barber
is playing on the song. Is he the one who played this guitar track?

And an interesting question by Doxa here. I am not sure though if the influence of MTV
was so big that it effected Mick's lyrics. I think most songs of Some Girls do have descriptive
lyrics too. I don't think "When the whip comes down" would make a very well received
video though.

Didn't really like it much until the new remaster of it came out...Its sounds amazing now...You can hear it very clear and mick's yelling
has been toned down on the remaster....Wow....It shows how great the Stones really are...If you haven't played the new remaster of it you won't really appreciate as much!
The entire album SOUNDS 100% better now.

Kinda funny that the 3 songs they released as singles from this album (undercover, She Was Hot, Too Much Blood) all managed to have their videos banned and/or censored at some point for various reasons.

I assume so. Otherwise why would he be on the track? I've puzzled over this too.

As said above, its Anita Morris, who sadly died of cancer a few years ago in her mid 40s.

Her most famous film role was a couple of years after the 'She was hot' video when she played Danny De Vito's love interest in 'Ruthless People' - a movie which of course featured Mick Jagger singing the title song.
