anybody remember that rumour.

think it was pre steel wheels era.

i had been into the stones only a few short months at the time and had thought they had actually quit as a band but the thought of them coming back in this guise was totally unacceptable.

maybe it was just a wind up.

I remember that rumour, probably around 1986 or 1987

Step 1 : Stones aren't getting on very well.

Step 2 : D'Arby did a charity show with Wyman, I think around that time (the AIMS show)

Step 3 : Wyman makes some comment about how great it was working with him

Step 4 : British tabloids put two and two together and post utter bullshit about Jagger being 'replaced' by D'Arby.

To be filed up there with other ridiculous rumours due to journalists taking innocuous comments at face value such as the one that had Tina Weymouth of Talking Heads being Wyman's replacement (Keith had joked that 'maybe we'll get a woman to replace him' and Tina was the only female bassist any music journalist had ever heard of)

Bobby Womack replacing Jagger as front man was another absurd one from the media lunacy of the late 80s.

yes....if my memory is correct (& it might not be)....I think Ronnie Wood was also promoting that "rumor".
i think it was in Bill German's Beggars Banquet.

before Steven Tyler recently rejoined Aerosmith.....they (or someone) was floating rumors about his replacement
and the D'Arby/Stones rumor was the first thing that came to mind......thinking that this tactic was
purposely done to get the ball rolling..to kiss and make up. maybe?

IORR............but I like it!

He's pretty good. Not impressed with his back-up band however.

An absurd rumour, ok.

But I hope no one will bash him. His singing in the two covers above is talented and soulful.

How I wish all the Stones covers I happen to hear were delivered with this quality and dignity.
