Baby Break It Down. Always gets trashed here, but I love this song. Love the guitar sound, love the harmonizing vocals. One of the last pure Stones-ish sounding songs. Great slow groove, too.

I almost forgot about this one. This was one of the first numbers performed by the Stones, long before they became famous. It has a driving beat, the singing is inspired, the Keef solo is spot on, and it just plain swings. This is not a silly pop song. I have heard it performed by respected jazz, blues, and easy listening crooners. I have listened to it literally hundreds of times. I am talking about Route 66.

Weird fan-created vid, but best sound. "Jump On Top Of Me": this should've been a single. Classic Stones track, you know it's them from the start.

Agreed. I was thinking along the lines of how it (and the others) is underappreciated outside of here. Frankly, in that context, at least two dozen others could be listed.

I'm probably the only one who will fess up to liking "Winter", but have always loved it - the mood, the lyrics, even Mick's vocals which he allegedly walked out on after 4 takes. One of the few "ballad-y" type songs where he sounds sincere. It's also interesting for me in that Keith doesn't play any guitar on it, it's just Mick and Mick which gives it a very non-Stones feel. Before anyone bashes that - Keith is my favorite guitarist, always has been always will be. But his absence on this song gives the band a totally different feel and Mick Taylor just runs with the chance to create some amazing leads throughout the song.

I don't think I'd want a steady diet of Stones songs like this - but it's a great change of pace.

If Keith wrote the words to Torn And Frayed then it's even more brilliant than I thought. I was influenced by a comment in the second edition of the Rock & Roll Lists book where there's an annotated list of the 50 greatest Stones songs and the comment for Torn And Frayed was something along the line of Mick peeking through Keith's keyhole.

"Joe's got a cough, sounds kind of rough. Oh, but the codeine will fix it. Doctor prescribes, drugstore supplies. Who's gonna help him to kick it?"

Indeed.

And the reasons (see the title of this topic) are? Only as for the last two, especially the very last one.

Casino Boogie: never played live. Maybe the best Mick & Keith harmony on any Stones track. Great impressionistic lyrics.

Through The Lonely Nights: Country wah-wah ballad. Deeply felt vocals. Great harmonies. Fantastic playing by Taylor. As a B-side it's been underappreciated.

ETTG: Also, B-side status has hindered its legacy. Great funky groove. Much better cut than many tracks that made the albums in the same period.

This board freakin' loves "Winter." Dear God, it may be my fave Stones ballad ever.

Too Tight: "I've seen it all a thousand times, I sung that song, I wrote that f***'in book!!!"

don't think they've played this one live.... absolutely awesome jagger vocal, cool guitar work, charlie's sounds great. one of my favorites!

Soul Survivor tops the list of unappreciated songs that I like. The groove transports me and makes me happy to be alive.

Followed by Turd on the Run, Complicated (I love the complex rhythms and Mick's syncopation), Hand of Fate, Heaven, Cherry Oh Baby, Heartbreaker, Shattered.

Fingerprint File studio version. This song is a stunning slab of funk. Taking the funk inspiration from 100 Years Ago and adding a more sinester back beat and great lyrics. Some great interplay between the band, and wonderful atmosphere. Mick J sings is soul out on this one.

All Down the Line. A four-minute rifffest that's right up there with some of the live warhorses, but never seems to get its due from the masses. It should have been a huge single.

My vote goes to Parachute Woman. Always loved the bluesy rhythm, lyrics and soundscapes on that one.

Sitting On A Fence is awesome too.
