I love the rawness and funkiness of this track, as others have mentioned. I especially love when Charlie kicks in at 1:27.
But at the break at 2:05, it's like all of a sudden, all the momentum suddenly disappears! What the hell?? Maybe it's the editing, like Skipstone said.

There's a beauty of a runaway riff, riffage, with melody lines that permeates the song. There's a lot going on in the song yet it's simple: the guitar melody is in line with the vocal. A wildness to the vocals.
The Mel Collins sax is really nice.
It makes sense why it's a B-side - it's a bit too wild.
It would've been too much for SG or ER and way out of place on TY.
It would've certainly fit on U.
Along with Through The Lonely Nights, it's a perfect B-side. Only Fancy Man Blues would come kinda close way later. They recorded so much yet offered LP tracks as B-sides. Such a rip off but that was the mindset then. Weird they didn't do more non-LP tracks.

I agree, one cannot help to wonder if the singles market was somewhat ignored because of Led Zep's enormous success in the US in the 70's despite them not releasing singles?
Fancyman Blues is one of the best tunes they've released since '89, it's more Reed than Jimmy himself!

A forgotten gem ? Hardly. I prefer those sleazy drawn out instrumental 'Munich Hilton' jams from Paris. Damn, I love those!

Was Jumpin' Jack Flash the first single to have a non-LP B-side? They only had two in the 1970s, 3 in the 1980s and got a little more inventive in the 1990s with all non-LP B-sides.
At least that's what's I recall without looking.

besides the ones mentioned by rockman above there's also sad day b-side of 19thnb, stoned the b-side of i wanna be your man, and i want to be loved the b-side of come on
and in the 70's they also had let it rock as a b-side of brown sugar so three in the 70's if you don't count it's inclusion on the spanish version of sticky fingers

I count five ‘non-album’ b-sides, released prior to Child of The Moon. All others also saw a release on a UK or US album.
I Want To Be Loved
Stoned
Long Long While
Sad Day
Who’s Driving Your Plane

Thanks Dande etc!
Maybe a Non-LP B-Sides thread should start ala Track Talks?

ABCKO should've released a 'Beatles, Past Masters-style' compilation, containing all the unique, non-album tracks. I know 'The Singles Collection' is there, but the former would've done very nicely. The track-listing could've been ben something like:
1. Come On
2. I Want To Be Loved
3. I Wanna Be Your Man
4. Stoned
5. Poison Ivy #1
6. Fortune Teller
7. Bye Bye Johnny
8. Money
9. Poison Ivy #2
10. Long Long While
11. 19th Nervous Breakdown (this wasn't released on a U.S. studio album, was it?)
12. Sad Day
13. Who's Driving Your Plane
14. Con Le Mie Lacrime (As Tears Go By)
15. Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing In The Shadow? - (only released on the 'Flowers' compilation)
16. Ride On, Baby - (only released on the 'Flowers' compilation)
17. My Girl - (only released on the 'Flowers' compilation)
18. Sitting On A Fence - (only released on the 'Flowers' compilation)
19 Out Of Time (edit) - (only released on the 'Flowers' compilation)
20. We Love You
21. Dandelion
22. Jumpin' Jack Flash
23. Child of The Moon
24. Street Fighting Man (single mix)
25. Honky Tonk Women
26. You Can't Always Get What You Want (single edit)
* I omitted You Better Move On, as it features on December's Children
