genius...? (a) Keith Richards (b) Mick Jagger (c) both (d) neither

"Genius" can be however you define it, for example...

- musically (I believe probably both Keith and Mick - native musical intelligence);

- a mind of sheer brilliance (Keith yes; don't see it for Mick)

- or anything else (like Mick for many years had unerring gauge of zeitgeist and trends; Mick has business acumen...not sure if genius tho)

What do you think?

Genius, perhaps, but only when working together.

genius? no.

Would (a) true genius(es) be so severely critized and effect so much negativity among a great part of his/her/their fans? Just a rhetorical question.

Genius is a wildly over applied adjective in most fields such as music, literature, sport, acting et al.

But the masses aren't critisizing the Glimmers, on the contrary, but we, the elite are, behroez

Neither.

To me, what set them apart and made them successful was that Mick has a unique voice, and his youthful beauty was so unusual as to seem unique.

Added to that, timing--the post-war economic boom; the British invasion; the novelty of black American blues filtered through a white English perspective.

Plus, Andrew Oldham's marketing strategy.

Plus, Mick's above-average intelligence and determination to succeed.

Depends on duration and what it is.

So it's a yes and a no answer.

Mick - Let's Work - NO.
Keith - Winning Ugly - NO.

Rock And A Hard Place - NO.

Midnight Rambler, Monkey Man, Can't You Hear Me Knocking, Sweet Virginia, Some Girls, Hang Fire, TATOO YOU, etc... - YES.

Hope that clears it up.

Geniuses I don't know but they(Mick and Keith) have written quite a few songs over a long period of time that are amazing and that is genius. Pop music as silly as it may be is nonetherless a tough game to play if you want to stay at the top. To do it well but for a long time that is the genius right there!.
Rock and Roll,
Mops

I doubt if Mick has such a relevant "above-average intelligence" that it matters. But the question why the Rolling Stones are, or were, such a success is an interesting one, though I strongly doubt if behroez thinks the same. It needs some kind of serious analysis, you know, because many factors and variables are involved. Btw: I never met any woman who found Mick a beauty when he was young. To me he was ugly and handsome at the same time. The same can be said about his voice. I know many people who dislike his voice. But I like his voice, well, not his present voice and sometimes his singing was horrible, especially life.

It's not that Keith 'wrote' Winning Ulgy - it's that he actually considered - and did - play on it.

To borrow a title from someone else, a momentary lapse of reason.

I always thought Mick was considered very beautiful when he was young, around the time of Performance and R&R Circus especially. He really came into his own around then. Initially, people thought he looked like a freak. But because he is so thin, his face aged very quickly.

As to his voice,I agree with the director of Alfie who commented that Mick has a voice that comes along once in a lifetime, a voice made for the blues.

Genius are:
John Lennon
Bob Dylan
Jimmy Hendrix

Anyway, is much better for me to be a RS rather than to be a genius! IMHO

"When a true genius appears in the world, you may know him by this sign, that the dunces are all in confederacy against him."

And, once, very good songwriters and musicians too.
At least, I don't know a better rock/blues band (though, like 71Tele justly remarked, you have the Rolling Stones, the Rolling Stones, the Rolling Stones and the Rolling Stones) and it's the only band whose music I love and enjoy on such a large scale.
