Favorite "unknown" bands

Most everyone here probably has a favorite band/artist that most others have not heard of.

A favorite of mine is "The Cold," a new wave/pop band that used to pack the clubs around New Orleans back in the late '70s and early '80s. They did a few covers of tunes from The Buzzcocks, etc. as well as punkish versions of Beatles and Stones tunes including "Paint it Black." Most of their material, however, is original and very good IMO. I always wondered why they were not more successful than they were.

American television viewers might recognize the guy on the lower right of the photo. It is Vance DeGeneres, who appeared on the "Daily Show" on the Comedy Channel a few years ago, and is the brother of Ellen DeGeneres.

Poi Dog Pondering is a close 2nd to the Stones for me. They're originally from Hawaii, briefly made Austin their home before settling in Chicago around 15 years ago. They have quite a following in the Chicago area and throughout the U.S. Everyone that I've ever taken to a Poi show immediately becomes a fan. It's impossible to stand still through one of their shows.... everyone is up on their feet and dancin' the night away!!!

I'm a huge Expiration Date fan, they're still pretty unknown, but their live shows are blistering and they'll get there someday.

One of my favorites, as well Carla's previous band Ethyl Meatplow.

My current favorite is Qui, all time favorite probably Grotus.
