Have the Stones (as a group or solo) made you cringe?
Posted by: sweet neo con ()

Per IORR's Hound Dog's suggestion....I'm making this topic official with it's own thread.

i cringed when i heard (& saw the video) mick's LET's WORK.

i cringed when mick did Sweet Thing on SNL.

i cringed when Mick tried to do the SNL intro with Jon Lovitz. (he was nervous)

i cringed when Keith & Ronnie tried to help Bob Dylan at Live Aid.

i cringe whenever bill wyman speaks.

i cringe when reporters ask charlie watts stupid questions.

i've NEVER cringed at anything that Ron Wood has done. (well..maybe
a little when mick try to tongue him during the '78 Sat. Night Live performance)

The video and all TV performances for Lets Work

Mick in 'Fairie Tale Theatre - The Nightingale' and 'Bent'

His 'Oirish accent in 'Ned Kelly'

That jumpsuit and that dance on the "Silver Train" promo (crackin' song, though!)

Ronnie and Keith embarrassing themselves on "Live Aid" in front of the biggest TV audience of their careers.

Bill poking a 13 year old. EVERYTHING about the entire Mandy Smith episode, including her family.

The Ronnie/Brandon Block incident at the Brit Awards (although it was funny, too)

The cockdance with Billy Preston.

Licensing Streets of Love for 'Days of our Lives'.

Personally, I thought it was the best thing about Live Aid. Especially if you take the circumstances into consideration - Bob changing the "setlist" as they were entering the stage and a lot of noise going on behind them so that they were not able to hear themselves.

I'd completely forgotten about that. If I remember rightly, Vinnie Jones came on stage later and told the audience he'd "sorted it" for Ronnie!

Agree Mofur - it was a great moment. It's real funny when Dylan does something like that when he's on the air...and backed up by Ron and Keith...!
He probably didn't give a damn about the pop-world of 1986, so why should he try to be hero at such a moment ?

He did, but the funniest thing about it was the fact that when both Ronnie and Brandon were insulting each other, they were so desperate for attention they went out of their way to deliver their insults into the microphone so they'd be heard. (Ronnie - "Get off the stage, ya c**t!" and Block - "Why dont you f*** off, you old bastard!")

Wrong clip! We are talking about the 2000 Brit Awards when Ronnie was interrupted by this DJ who'd got on stage thinking he'd won an award.

It's not available anymore, due to a copyright claim by British Phonogram Industry Ltd.

The band selling Mercedes benz

Blondie playing guitar on stage
Keith forgetting the intro to Satisfaction
Dancing in the streets with David B

"No dope smoking no beer sold after 12 o'clock"

How about in Frankfurt this summer when they turned Keith off during SFTD and he stormed back across the stage looking like someone was goiung to get killed?

Come on now, the Live Aid thing with Keith and Ronnie was horrible but I was PISSED at Dylan for messing with the plan just as they were going on stage, in front of millions! That seemed deliberate to me! ( although I didn't find out the details until after the show). Gazza, you didn't find " Nightingale" charming? It's a bloody fairytale, give Mick a break! He was playing a Japanese Emperor! I thought the make-up job was great, made his eyes all chinkie the way his hair was pulled up so tight!
I used to cringe at Keith's black teeth before he found a dentist and of course the entire Wyman episode with Mandy was pathetic. As far as the Saturday Night Live performances, I loved all of them, especially the one with Mick pretending to be Keith! Really well done, and Mick in the mirror with .....gosh, I forgot his name and I love him, he imitates Mick all the time...help! He was in that great Red Sox movie... anyway, I took heat for months after Mick tried to slip Ronnie the tongue in 1978. I didn't cringe but I sure hated defending that forever!

Some things make me cringe a bit in retrospect, but I enjoyed everything when it happened, exept Mick doing God gave everything on SNL. The song was brutal boring from the start

No, the real problem was that the curtain came down behind them and they couldnt hear themselves in the monitors because the all star band were rehearsing the finale. Result was chaos. Dylan only SUGGESTED some changes (he suggested 'All I Really Wanna Do' as they were going up the ramp...but they didnt play it)..they didnt really change the setlist. Besides theyd rehearsed for two days..theres enough tapes of it. What Dylan DID change however was his line up. Bill Graham had put a band together for him to close the show with and he'd allowed himself to be talked into it despite not wanting to do it. Two days beforehand he called Woody (who then called Keith) and they decided to do the gig between them. A much cooler idea, but it just didnt come off.

Gazza, you didn't

I know - but, duh, hes the lead singer of what was the greatest and most notorious rock n roll band on the planet. 'Playing' is a stretch. He sounded retarded.

He was lucky he didnt go to jail for it. Most mothers would have pressed charges. Mandy's actually gave it her blessing. Idiot.

Jimmy Fallon. I like all the SNL stuff too. I'm all for them sending themselves up, and they do it really well.. God preserve from humourless po-faced celebrities with a sense of humour bypass. That 'Point/Counterpoint' thing where he's doing Keith was inspired. "Mick - you ignorant SLUT!"

Mick jagger 1987 tops of the pop...singing lets work?????

To back it up with pleasant thoughts Keith peeling off "take it so hard " on SNL 1988....
