Thirty four years ago today, we lost the Grievous Angel.

Don't forget the man, put on Ooh Las Vegas loud and smile, put on Hot Burrito # 1 and weep.

The King Of The Broken Hearts.

If you're ever in the Palm Springs/Joshua Tree NP area, have a stay in the famous "Room 8":

Cosmoprim and other lovers of "Cosmic American Music:"

Have you heard about this forthcoming (imminent) release?

"Rolling Stone" reported that Amoeba also has concert tapes of the Byrds during Gram's brief stint with the band--reputed to be incredible stuff...

I had now idea it was the anniversary of GP's death. It's funny, because I've been listening to a ton of Gram, Byrds, and FBB these last few weeks. I've also been rehearsing Hank's 'You Win Again' for a show I have in a few weeks, and I was thinking that if it weren't for Gram turning Keith on to country, my taste in music might have been much more limited. What does our boy always say? 'He passed it on'? I think Mr. Parsons certainly did that, and much more.

I'll sneak in Brass Buttons in the setlist for my band's next gig. In fact, we've already done it once smiling smiley Great man, great singer, great songwriter!

'You Win Again' was also included in FBB's sets when Gram was in the band

Thanks to the Right Reverend for this info. Can't wait to hear him sing "Undo The Right" - now that's a monster.

I wish somebody had the lost Terry Melcher produced sessions that Gram did before GP was released. For those of you who don't know the story, Gram checked the reels out from the Columbia(?) library and never returned them.

I think it was A&M records.

I would for sure love to hear those sessions too. If I remember correctly Ry Cooder and Clarence White played on those.

I believe you are correct on all counts, Sohoe. I wish I could remember the numbers he recorded - I do recall it was a bunch of country classics, but I can't recall actual titles.

Some Merle Haggard and George Jones tunes I think it was.

You beat me to it - I just pulled it off the shelf. Thanks, Sohoe.

EDIT:
What just happened? I swear I just saw a post that started "According to Ben Fong-Torres..." that listed songs. Am I losing my ever-lovivng mind?

No you didn't, but I started doubting the source, and started thinking I should have done some crosschecking before posting the link. Sorry 'bout that. I haven't found any info that contradicts what I posted in the first place, so here it is again

According to Ben Fong-Torres, among the ten tracks recorded by Parsons according to A&M's logs, were the following tracks:
his own song "Brass Buttons";
Roy Orbison's "Dream Baby";
Felice and Boudleaux Bryant's "Sleepless Nights," a song made famous by the Everly Brothers;
Harlan Howard's "I Fall to Pieces," a hit for Patsy Cline;
"She Thinks I Still Care" by George Jones;
"White Line Fever" by Merle Haggard;
and another version of Aretha Franklin's "Do Right Woman," earlier recorded on The Gilded Palace of Sin
