extract from the latest ticketmaster ireland mailout

"Note that the concert is being recorded for visual and audio broadcast"

if we get the weather, it'll be as spectacular a show as they've done. My money is, obviously, on it raining. Constantly. grinning smiley

Excited about this of course, but I wonder what for.

TV? Like Bremen '98.
Dvd? No... that would be too much U2. Besides, the Biggest Bang is the Biggest Bang.
Fan club dvd with selected songs, for the future?
A live record with bonus clips? No, not another LL disc one... Or maybe they'll throw in some Irish folksong.

Let the speculations begin.

i'm assuming that Frankie Gavin (him what played fiddle on 'The Worst' on VL) will probably turn up to do something, seeing as he's a support act

as things stand - it wouldn't surprise me that they'd consider releasing it, insofar as while U2 have done it, so too have the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and (I know) Brian Adams; aesthetically, if you get - like i say - good weather on the day, the footage is spectacular. You got the hills, the castle background, the hordes of people...it looks better than justanotherstadiumrockshow!

my 1st hunch was well every slane show is recorded for irish 2fm radio and broadcast in tantalising segments over a 2 week period or something anyways, great a top quality boot. but it could well be a full dvd release somewhere down the line simply because of the success w other Slane shows....a single disc dvd may also appeal much more to younger/newer fans who balk at paying 60euro (yep ripoff ireland) for the BB set. if the show had several tracks/special guests not already featured on BB it would sell well to those who already bought that too!

No need. It specifically says 'visual and audio broadcast'. Seems clear enough.

Nope. Only thing for sure is that whatever it is it wont be a 'live' broadcast. I wouldnt hold your breath

I read somewhere on the web,and I can't remember for the life of me where it was, that that Slane show was being transmitted into a VIP area within the venue itself. I think it was part of some VIP ticket package I saw being advertised on the web, but I can't remember anymore than that.

Re: slane recorded

That bit is true, thunderball.

The VIP experience gives you dinner in the castle itself and the option of a live video 'feed' of the show on a big screen

However, as the people its being broadcast TO are already paying customers (as are the people in the venue itself watching it on a screen), thats not really tantamount to a 'public' broadcast, one would think?

Re: slane recorded

Why on earth would you want a live video feed when you are at the event in the first place!

Now i've heard it all!!

Status symbol...they're there to be seen

hey, welcome to the wonderful, weird and wacky world of the corporate fan. they'll pay five or ten times more than you or I to be seen at a show by a band they dont care much about and will show little enthusiasm for the gig itself...

Y'know what, i sorta feel your mild irritation at the 'prawn sandwich' brigade at these gigs, but at least they're not taking tickets and venue space from honest-to-god fans.

what REALLY busts my chops is when you see, say, a report of the show from the Astoria and the amount of VIPs and liggers that go; that's just wrong, and whilst a wholescale cull of the entire VIP enclosure (in that case, the top tier, right?) is a fairly harsh measure, in some cases i think it's justified...

now, if you'll excuse me, i'm off to find my 'All poshos are w*nkers' T-shirt so that if all that's being 'broadcast' is just a feed to the Corporate fans, then they'll have to make the cameras completely avoid Gold A grinning smiley

From Irish Independent :

Stones rolling in...but bring your wellies

By Elaine Keogh
Thursday August 16 2007

BRING your wellies and double your travelling time to see the Rolling Stones at Slane Castle on Saturday. That is the advice from gardai and concert promoters MCD.

It seems our summer washout has ensured that plans to put in extensive drainage across the 22-acre site were brought forward and expert landscapers have finished their work.

Event safety officer Michael Slattery said yesterday that all the car parks will be assessed in light of the weather and a hard surface will be put in at all entry/exit points if needed.

The traffic management plan for the concert has been altered slightly since the last concert at Slane in 2004.

The main difference is that the majority of the cars will travel via the M1 motorway to dedicated car parks on the N51, the Drogheda-Slane road.

No buses will be allowed to travel towards Slane from Drogheda. Traffic diversions will operate on that route from Dolly Mitchell's pub on the east of Slane to Wickers Cross on the west.

On the N2 south of Slane, the diversion will be at Kilmoon Cross and on the north side at Daly's Cross, just north of Collon.

Traffic on the M1 from Northern Ireland will be diverted onto the N2.

There are designated parking areas and disembarking points for Dublin Bus and private bus operators, which will be signposted.

There is no official camping and no casual trading permitted.

Some 460 gardai will be on duty for the event.

"The primary focus is on the traffic arrangements," said Superintendent Kevin Donohoe.

His advice is not to drive and to instead travel by bus.

An emergency route will be clearly signposted and a field hospital staffed by eight doctors, 10 nurses and 16 emergency medical technicians will be on site.

The intense rainfall has also prompted Slane Castle owner Lord Henry Mountcharles to give a personal warning about the River Boyne which runs through the estate and at the rear of the stage.

"The flow in the river is more severe than at any time I have ever seen in my life. Please stay away from the Boyne - it is a dangerous river and we have had casualties before," he said.

The 70,000 tickets for concert have sold out with the exception of a small number of VIP tickets. All VIP tickets include a grandstand seat. "Pack your wellies in the boot if you are driving and our strongest advice is to leave a lot of time," said MCD spokesman Justin Green.

"The gates are opening earlier this year so come for the day and arrive early."

MCD is also advising ticket holders to use public transport.

Opening act Frankie Gavin is due on stage at 2.30 and the Rolling Stones will begin their performance at 8pm.

Recording is going to show why Ireland is so green. The weather forecasts for Saturday are all appalling. Heavy rain... thunder storms... depressing. The summer of 07 continues

During the Licks Tour in Dublin Keith sang a few line from It's a Long Way to Tipperary." Naturally, the audience joined in a sing'a'long with Keef.

That would go over nicely again!

Maybe they could sing an Irish classic like 'The Wild Roaver' with Larry Mullen jr.?

Seems like it is goingto be rain in Dublin on saturday - does anybody know, if it is going to rain the whole day / in the morning / at night?

God probably does, but hes not telling us

Here's the weather forecast for Drogheda, which is the general area where the show will actually be - not Dublin
